At present, followers of the G.I. Joe franchise have plenty to look forward to. The Energon Universe, a collaboration between Skybound and G.I. Joe, brings together characters from both franchises, and a joint movie crossover is also on the horizon. In addition, the popular G.I. Joe Classified series by Hasbro keeps introducing fresh action figures and vehicles, and recently, they’ve unveiled a new game via Kickstarter – one that has already surpassed its funding goal.
This new game is titled “Risk: G.I. Joe Special Missions,” a collaboration between Renegade Game Studios and Hasbro. It’s an innovative take on the classic strategic warfare game, with a twist from the G.I. Joe universe. The game accommodates 2 to 4 players, who can choose to align with either G.I. Joe or Cobra. Throughout the game, players work to accomplish missions and resolve plots in order to accumulate the highest number of objective points by the end. The game features five master scenarios that dynamically reveal various hotspots on the map, ensuring an exciting and unpredictable gameplay experience for both teams.
Based on your chosen group, you’ll have a variety of 13 leaders to select from, such as Duke, Scarlett, Snake Eyes, Cover Girl (G.I. Joe team), or Cobra Commander, Destro, Baroness, and Serpentor (Cobra team).
Or in another way:
You’ll find 13 different leaders to choose from according to the group you select. These include characters like Duke, Scarlett, Snake Eyes, Cover Girl (on the G.I. Joe team), as well as Cobra Commander, Destro, Baroness, and Serpentor (on the Cobra team).
Just like in Risk, your miniatures representing your troops on the game board will include more than just infantry – they’ve been given a G.I. Joe and Cobra makeover! Along with Joe Infantry and Cobra Troopers, you can use Skystrikers, Rattlers, Wolverines, and Hiss Tanks. Additionally, tokens for the U.S.S. Flagg and Cobra Island will also be provided.
Initially planned as a pre-order, the game’s production costs escalated globally due to increased costs and tariffs, leading to a switch to a Kickstarter model. However, those who had previously pre-ordered the game will not only have the opportunity to participate in the Kickstarter campaign but will also receive a Leaders Bonus Pack as a thank you. This bonus pack will feature 4 new leaders, with two from each faction, each of whom brings their unique twist to the gameplay.
The Crimson Twins stand out by functioning as a single commander yet being present in two locations simultaneously. Additionally, Shipwreck comes aboard as another leader, expanding the strategic possibilities for the U.S.S. Flagg. Simultaneously, Zarana and Jinx possess talents capable of hindering enemies and acquiring extra information, providing you with increased opportunities to complicate your adversary’s strategies.
For $70.00, you’ll receive the Yo Joe! tier, which includes a copy of the game and a bonus pack. There are no stretch goals, but if you’re a retailer, you can pledge for four copies of the game and four bonus packs at a cost of $140.00. You can explore the entire campaign by clicking here.
