New Galactus Image Offers Best Look Yet at Fantastic Four Villain’s Real Size

The Marvel Cinematic Universe often elevates obscure bad guys from Marvel Comics into widely recognized figures, like Michael B. Jordan’s portrayal of Killmonger in Black Panther, who became even more renowned due to his performance. It’s beneficial that the MCU highlights villains who haven’t had much attention previously, but this seems more a result of necessity rather than choice. Many of Marvel’s formidable antagonists were under 20th Century Fox control before Disney’s acquisition in 2019, and so, the decision makers had to find the opportune moment to integrate these villains into the MCU.

As a diehard fan, I can hardly contain my excitement! The wait is almost over as Doctor Doom steps onto the scene in “Avengers: Doomsday,” and Magneto seems poised to make an appearance in Jake Schreier’s X-Men reboot that’s currently brewing. Yet, they’ll have their work cut out for them, as another formidable villain, Galactus, gears up to menace Earth when “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” hits theaters later this month.

In the promotional material for “First Steps”, the Silver Surfer often alerts Marvel’s First Family about the impending arrival of the Devourer of Worlds. Occasionally, brief glimpses are given of the antagonist en route to New York City. However, these instances don’t effectively convey Galactus’ immense size, a crucial element of his character. The recently released teaser for the Marvel Studios film offers a glimpse that reveals Galactus’ towering stature.

In the final moments of the preview, Galactus makes an appearance, towering over a skyscraper as the Fantasticar circles around him. Since the exact height of this villain can sometimes vary in source material, it’s often stated he’s taller than a few thousand feet. However, Galactus seems smaller in the teaser compared to his usual depiction; there might be a plausible reason for this discrepancy in size.

Galactus has the power to change his size whenever he wants, so he can come to Earth in a smaller form and challenge the Fantastic Four first. This gives him a chance to build up an appetite before considering them as his next meal. It’s always exciting to watch Galactus in all his might on the big screen.

Giving Galactus a Body Will Make Him a Real Threat in The Fantastic Four: First Steps

In the Marvel comic book adaptation First Steps, Galactus appears as if he’s leaped straight from the pages of a comic book, with his distinctive purple attire adorned by horns and blue eyes. However, this character didn’t always receive the same level of reverence. For instance, in the 2007 film Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, the main antagonist, the Silver Surfer, alerts Earth’s inhabitants about Galactus’ impending arrival. The chaos caused by the Silver Surfer makes it essential that he does so, as Galactus in this film is merely a colossal cloud. Although his size is represented, Galactus doesn’t speak; instead, he communicates through the Silver Surfer.

Marvel Studios may be on track to replicate past errors, but with Ralph Ineson yet to disclose his character’s ominous voice, it promises to be awe-inspiring. This will undoubtedly enhance the villain’s enigmatic appeal, which is already sky-high due to the powers that be making a wise choice by granting him a physical presence.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps hits theaters on July 25, 2025.
