Intrinsic Value Films is heading to the American Film Market with several new film projects. The company, which produced last year’s wrestling biopic Queen of the Ring, is developing a movie based on a Stephen King short story, as well as a biopic about the life of Gene Wilder, currently titled Gene.
The upcoming film, Gene, will tell the story of the iconic actor Gene Wilder – famous for roles in The Producers, Blazing Saddles, and Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory. Written by Jeremy Roth, the movie will explore both Wilder’s incredible life and his personal struggles, as well as the important relationships that influenced his career and his ongoing quest for happiness, according to Deadline.
As a huge Gene Wilder fan, I was thrilled to hear Intrinsic Value Films landed the rights to tell his life story! The Estate is being handled by David Shapira & Associates, which is great. Everyone’s already buzzing about who could take on the director’s chair and, more importantly, be Gene on screen – it’s going to be a fascinating casting process. For now, though, all we know is that Roth is writing the screenplay, and that’s a solid start.
This is a bold new undertaking for the rising creative talent behind shows like Love, Victor and How I Met Your Father. According to Intrinsic Value co-founder Aimee Schoof, “After years of passionately producing films, we’re thrilled to establish Intrinsic Value as a recognizable name,” and making a film about such a celebrated actor is a great way to do just that.
Gene Wilder starred in many memorable films, including Bonnie and Clyde, Young Frankenstein, Start the Revolution without Me, and, of course, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory – a role he’s perhaps best known for. He sadly passed away in 2016, though his final on-screen appearance was in 2003 on Will & Grace.
Timothée Chalamet’s performance as a young Willy Wonka in the 2023 movie Wonka was inspired by Gene Wilder’s iconic take on the character. The film, which earned $635 million worldwide, focuses on the joyful and fantastical aspects of Wonka, a departure from the darker tone of the 2005 film Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Intrinsic Value appears to be a film celebrating the imaginative spirit behind storytelling, particularly in fantastical movies like Young Frankenstein and Willy Wonka. Whether Gene will be a successful movie is still unknown, but it could bring recognition to the studio and everyone involved.
