New Gundam Wing Merch Will Let You “Self-Destruct” Your Mech

It’s been a huge year for Gundam, celebrating its 45th anniversary! We’ve seen some exciting things happen, with stories from the original timeline returning and the popular Gundam Seed getting a new film, Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Freedom. A lot of fans, myself included, have been hoping to see Gundam Wing make a similar comeback, but Heero and the others haven’t reappeared yet in a major way. The good news is, it seems like the franchise hasn’t forgotten about Mobile Suit Gundam Wing altogether.

Japan often celebrates popular anime series with a special raffle system called “Ichiban Juji,” where fans can win exclusive merchandise. To mark the 30th anniversary of Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, the raffle is offering a variety of items from the show. These include figures of the main character, Heero Yuy, as well as models of the iconic mechs. There’s even a fun item: a pen designed to look like the detonator that destroyed one of the series’ biggest robots! You can see a picture of the Gundam Wing pen below. The merchandise will be available in Japan starting January 20th.

We’re excited to reveal the full lineup for the “Ichiban Kuji Gundam Wing 30th Anniversary”! The D prize is a collectible item you won’t be able to resist, and popular MS Head Magnets are also included. Check out the complete list of prizes! Sales begin on January 20th, 2026 at 5:00 PM. #IchibanKuji

Blowing Up a Gundam

Fans who want to relive a key moment from Mobile Suit Gundam Wing can find it in the anime’s third episode. Surrounded by enemies, Heero made the bold choice to destroy his own Gundam to prevent it from falling into the wrong hands. He miraculously survived the explosion and later returned to piloting another suit. While the original series concluded with Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz in 1997, there haven’t been any new stories since then. Fortunately, a compelling narrative exists that could bring Heero and the other pilots back for more adventures.

The world of Gundam Wing expanded in 2010 with the release of the New Mobile Report Gundam Wing: Frozen Teardrop novels. Set years after the original anime, the story follows Heero, who has been frozen for decades and awakens to a changed world where his friends have aged. Although an anime adaptation hasn’t been announced, the novels’ five-year run and compelling story could be a great way to revive the series. Given that Mobile Suit Gundam often uses anniversaries to unveil new content, and Gundam Wing was a breakthrough hit in North America thanks to its airing on Toonami, many fans are hoping for a reboot or continuation.
