A new Halo announcement is expected shortly, and everything suggests it will be significant. The Halo franchise was once Xbox’s most important title, and while it remains a key part of the brand, its reputation has declined over time. After Bungie released Halo: Reach and handed control to 343 Industries, the quality of the games noticeably decreased. Halo 4 was still reasonably well-received, but Halo 5 and Halo Infinite both had problems. The story in Halo 5 wasn’t very engaging, though the gameplay was solid. However, Halo Infinite fixed the issues with the single-player campaign but delivered a disappointing live-service experience with its multiplayer mode.
Over time, the Halo series has faced some criticism, leaving fans uncertain about what’s next. Recently, 343 Industries was renamed Halo Studios and started developing a new Halo game using Unreal Engine 5, shifting away from their own in-house engine. This change is expected to simplify the development process and make it easier to hire new team members, as they won’t need to learn a completely new system. There’s strong speculation that the studio is working on a remake of Halo: Combat Evolved, possibly releasing next year to celebrate the franchise’s 25th anniversary, but the team hasn’t confirmed anything.
Halo Studios Teases New Announcement for Next Month

We’re expecting to learn more about what Halo Studios is working on in October. During the Halo World Championship on October 24th, in the afternoon, they will share new details in a presentation and panel. While it doesn’t definitely mean a completely new Halo game or a remake will be revealed, many fans believe that’s what’s happening. It’s best to keep your expectations realistic, but things are definitely pointing towards a big announcement.

Last year, we saw a brief preview of Halo recreated in Unreal Engine 5, and it strongly resembled Halo: Combat Evolved. While no official name or specifics were shared, the preview was visually stunning. We’re hoping Halo Studios will soon provide more information about what they’re working on, including a title and some clear expectations. There’s also a strong possibility that a Halo game is coming to PS5, so whatever they reveal could be connected to that. Regardless, there are definitely some exciting developments happening with the Halo franchise.
