The movie business is unpredictable. A film can seem like a huge success one moment, and a failure the next. Sometimes movies that appear destined to fail actually end up making a lot of money. Horror films, in particular, are difficult to predict. Because they often have low production costs but can become incredibly popular, they’re now one of the few types of movies studios are willing to take a chance on.
Horror is dominating the box office in 2026! Both the survival thriller Primate and the sequel 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple are currently playing in theaters. While some experts initially thought The Bone Temple didn’t perform as well as expected, it’s officially become the highest-grossing film of the year so far.
28 Years Later Is Officially A Hit Franchise After The Bone Temple‘s Opening

I’m really impressed with how well 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple is doing! It’s already brought in about $31.2 million globally, with $15 million of that coming from here in the US and another $16.2 million from places like the UK. It’s amazing to see it’s outperformed both Primate and Greenland 2: Migration at the box office – especially considering those films are still relatively new, being in their second week of release!
As a movie fan, I’ve been following the buzz around The Bone Temple, and it’s interesting. While some reports are calling it a box office disappointment because it made $15 million instead of the predicted $20-$22 million, the good news is critics love it. It’s got a solid “A-” from audiences (Cinemascore) and an 89% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which is the best for the series so far! That suggests people are really enjoying it and telling their friends, which could help it gain even more traction. Plus, the first movie, 28 Years Later, is doing really well on Netflix right now, so it’s a perfect time for new viewers to catch up or for existing fans to rewatch before seeing the sequel. I’m optimistic it’ll do well in the long run!
I just finished reading Spencer Perry’s review of 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, and he really hit the nail on the head. He described it as a thought-provoking and entertaining movie, and I totally agree. He pointed out that it’s hard to compare it to the first 28 Days Later because they’re so different in their approach, but both films really deliver on what they set out to do. It’s a surprisingly good sequel that manages to be both unexpected and satisfying, and he even called the ending one of the best in a horror franchise in years! It leaves me incredibly excited – and a little nervous – to see where the third movie goes, but The Bone Temple definitely sets it up for success.
