There’s a new Bond in town. No, not the big screen Villeneuve Bond. The little screen gamer Bond.
On Wednesday, the 3rd of September, during a 30-minute presentation, IO Interactive demonstrated an extended portion of the upcoming game 007 First Light, showcasing elements such as covert infiltration missions and a thrilling vehicle pursuit.
On the other hand, what might be even more intriguing is that the event ultimately unveiled the long-rumored voice actor for the youthful Bond character. Some particularly astute detectives had actually figured it out beforehand.
Indeed, it’s correct that Patrick Gibson has been cast as the 26-year-old character who embarks on a mission to earn the 007 title.
A 30-year-old Irish acting talent, known for roles in shows such as Dexter: Original Sin, The OA, Shadow and Bone, and several others, might come as a surprise to some, given that the James Bond franchise is often associated with more well-known personalities.
Martin Emborg, the narrative director, holds a different viewpoint. He elaborates that choosing a lesser-known actor for First Light’s Bond isn’t merely about finding the next James Bond. Instead, it’s more about discovering an actor capable of bringing a fresh and unique perspective to the character.
1) “Which actor could convincingly portray this younger character version? I believe collaborating with established stars presents a unique challenge. It’s less about discovering the character and more like thinking, ‘Wouldn’t it be interesting if this famous person played Bond?’ To be honest, I never found that idea particularly appealing.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but feel thrilled about the upcoming Bond film starring Pierce Brosnan, as Gibson’s Bond! The excitement doesn’t stop there – some of the much-loved iconic supporting cast members will also be joining the action, and their talented actors have been confirmed for the roles. I can hardly wait to see them bring these beloved characters to life!

In a new spin, Lennie James (known for The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead) steps into the role of Greenway, Priyanga Burford (famous for Steeltown Murders and Innocent) portrays M, Kiera Lester (renowned from Death in Paradise) takes on Moneypenny, Alastair Mackenzie (acclaimed in Andor, The Crown, and Monarch of the Glen) brings Q to life, and Noémie Nakai (recognized in Tokyo Vice and Army of Thieves) embodies Miss Roth. This completes our principal cast.
In addition to unveiling the game demonstration and cast announcements, IO Interactive has disclosed that the game, 007 First Light, is set to launch on both PC and consoles on the 27th of March in the year 2026.
Although the search for gaming’s next Bond character has concluded, it’s important to note that director Denis Villeneuve’s forthcoming involvement with the franchise remains uncertain.
As a fervent fan, I can’t help but ponder over the speculations about who might become the next James Bond. Names like Tom Holland are being tossed around, and I must admit, it does spark my curiosity as to whether he would consider donning that iconic tuxedo.
