The first trailer for the new HBO drama Lanterns offers a look at the DC Universe adventure starring Hal Jordan and John Stewart. Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre will play these iconic characters as part of James Gunn’s DCU, beginning with Chapter 1: “Gods and Monsters” in 2026.
After a short preview, HBO has released the official trailer for Lanterns, the new DCU TV series. The show is scheduled to debut in 2026. You can watch the trailer below.
The first trailer for the DCU revealed Hal Jordan’s new costume, which is quite different from the one Ryan Reynolds wore in 2011. We also got a quick glimpse of John Stewart’s power ring, and saw a moment of Chandler flying. Upcoming trailers will probably show more of the heroes using their energy-based powers.
Chris Mundy, who worked on Ozark, is the showrunner and executive producer. He’s joined by Damon Lindelof, known for The Leftovers and Watchmen, and comic book writer Tom King as executive producers.
HBO’s upcoming DCU series centers on John Stewart, a new Green Lantern recruit, and the experienced Hal Jordan. These two space-faring law enforcers team up to solve a murder mystery that begins in the American Midwest. The first season of the show, titled Lanterns, will have eight episodes.
Fans received a sneak peek at the new DC drama this week, just a day after seeing a trailer for Supergirl. This footage was one of two exciting reveals from the DCU. The series, called Lanterns, will be the third installment in James Gunn’s connected universe, following Creature Commandos and Peacemaker.
I’m so excited to hear more about Lanterns! Peter Safran recently shared that the show is now expected to premiere late next summer. And the cast is shaping up to be amazing – Kelly Macdonald, Garret Dillahunt, and Jason Ritter are all joining, plus we’ll be seeing Ulrich Thomsen as Sinestro and Nathan Fillion returning as Guy Gardner! I can’t wait!
In addition to the Supergirl movie and the Lanterns series, a Clayface film is now planned for the DCU in 2026. This R-rated horror movie is set to release in theaters on October 23rd. The Lanterns series will premiere on HBO in 2026.
