New Last of Us Projects Teased by Naughty Dog Boss

It appears that Neil Druckmann’s comment suggests Naughty Dog is currently developing new projects within the realm of “The Last of Us” franchise, which has gained significant recognition and respect within the video game industry. Known for their exceptional work, particularly in games like Uncharted and especially the “The Last of Us” series, Naughty Dog stands out as one of the leading video game developers. They’ve been lauded for their captivating storylines, thrilling gameplay, and well-developed characters. However, over recent years, they have primarily focused on “The Last of Us,” with the two games being remastered and released across multiple platforms and the HBO series based on “The Last of Us” receiving outstanding success.

It was widely expected that a third game would follow due to Naughty Dog’s triumph with the series. However, instead of confirming another installment in the post-apocalyptic franchise, the studio revealed plans for a new, unrelated project. Currently, Naughty Dog is involved in various projects, but Neil Druckmann is spearheading their main venture. Regarding The Last of Us Part 3, while Druckmann hasn’t dismissed the idea entirely, he has been hesitant to promise its development, implying it might not be underway at present.

Neil Druckmann Confirms Unannounced Last of Us Projects

In a recent interview with Variety, Neil Druckmann explained why he stepped down from co-showrunning The Last of Us TV series. He found it challenging to juggle his responsibilities at Naughty Dog and his work on Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, along with the demands of a big-scale television production. However, he hinted at something else as well – he’s currently working on new projects related to The Last of Us franchise that are separate from the TV series.

Druckmann stated, “I considered the possibilities for the upcoming season, taking into account everything related to ‘The Last of Us’ that I’m handling – not just the TV series, but also various games. Among all these projects, ‘Intergalactic: The Heretic Profit,’ our major new IP from Naughty Dog and PlayStation, requires most of my attention. It seems to me that I can more effectively handle all my duties if I maintain a higher-level role.

He didn’t just make this comment once, but also repeated it during the interview later on. Druckmann hinted at the existence of unannounced projects related to The Last of Us, though he chose not to disclose any details. “There’s more happening in the world of The Last of Us that hasn’t been revealed yet,” he stated.

Is it possible that we’re witnessing a resurrection of the previously axed multiplayer version of The Last of Us? Or perhaps a separate single-player spin-off focusing on a character like Tommy, even hinting at The Last of Us Part 3? It might as well be any other form, such as a comic book, another Halloween Horror Nights haunted house, or something completely different. Regardless, the double confirmation is noteworthy given Druckmann’s previous reluctance to discuss it. This could simply be a hint for disappointed fans who were disappointed about no new game. We’ll have to wait and see what develops.

I’m curious about what people believe those hidden Last of Us projects could be. Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section and let’s discuss it further in our ComicBook Forum!
