This year, Microsoft (Xbox) unveiled intentions to join the portable gaming sector with the ROG Xbox Ally device. Initially set for launch this year, a specific release date hasn’t been confirmed yet. Previous speculations have surfaced about both the release and pricing of the ROG Xbox Ally, but official details are still pending from Microsoft. However, recent insider reports suggest that we might hear an official announcement from them soon regarding the device’s launch and cost.
The ROG Xbox Ally has been likened to the Switch 2, but in reality, it’s more similar to a Steam Deck. It is planned to be compatible with the Xbox Game Pass library, and can also run other PC games. However, Microsoft has yet to announce its price, but industry experts anticipate it will be priced similarly to previous ROG Ally models.

Heading towards 2025, I, as a dedicated gamer, am buzzing with anticipation for the upcoming announcement on the release date of Xbox’s handheld device. With the holiday season fast approaching and it being a peak time for gaming and console sales, it feels like we’re on the brink of something exciting. It seems like we might finally get a glimpse of when the ROG Xbox Ally will hit the market soon!
ROG Xbox Ally Reportedly Targeting Mid-October Release Date
Today, Dealabs’ mascot Billbil-kun disclosed that the ROG Xbox Ally is anticipated to debut on October 16th. Coincidentally, this date also marks the release of Pokemon Legends Z-A for both Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, making it a potentially momentous day in gaming.
Releasing a game gift around mid-October would be ideal, avoiding the holiday shopping rush for gamers. However, the information only applies to the European market, meaning dates could differ in other regions such as the U.S. Yet, most big gaming consoles aim for simultaneous global launches. Therefore, if the rumored October 16th release date is confirmed, it’s likely that the ROG Xbox Ally will be available in many parts of the world on or near that date.
Besides the rumored launch date, Billbil-kun suggests that an official announcement is imminent. More precisely, they anticipate that Microsoft’s Xbox will unveil the handheld’s release date during a live stream at Gamescom 2025. Reportedly, this announcement is set for August 20th, during a confirmed Xbox broadcast at Gamescom. The event will be accessible to those not physically present at Gamescom via live streams on Twitch, Facebook, and YouTube.

If Microsoft reveals the release date for Xbox during this panel, we can expect to learn the official price as well. As per Billbil-kun’s report, the standard ROG Xbox Ally model is said to cost €599 or $700, while the ROG Xbox Ally X version might be priced at €899 or $1050. However, considering current market conditions in the U.S., it remains uncertain if pricing will vary in different regions. Nonetheless, these prices seem to match up with earlier rumors about the product.
Currently, neither Microsoft nor Asus have officially announced the release date or price for the ROG Xbox Ally. While Dealabs and Billibil-kun have been trusted sources of leaks in the past, there’s a possibility that this information might not be accurate. Therefore, until an official announcement is made, all details regarding the release are tentative.
