New Look at Sam Raimi’s Return to Horror After 17 Years Drops Ahead of Release: Watch The Trailer

Sam Raimi burst onto the horror scene in 1981 with The Evil Dead, immediately establishing himself as a distinctive filmmaker. He quickly followed up with Evil Dead II six years later and has remained connected to the franchise ever since. After making Army of Darkness and The Gift, Raimi successfully transitioned to superhero films with the Spider-Man trilogy. He returned to horror in 2009 with Drag Me to Hell and has primarily worked as a producer in the genre for the last twenty-five years.

Sam Raimi, through his production company Ghost House Pictures, has been involved in creating several successful horror films, including The Grudge series, 30 Days of Night, Don’t Breathe, and Crawl – movies that still scare audiences today. After directing OZ The Great and Powerful in 2013, Raimi took a break from directing, returning in 2022 with the Marvel film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. While that movie had some horror elements, it’s been almost twenty years since he’s directed a full-on horror film. That changes soon with the release of Send Help, a new film directed by Raimi, in theaters in just a few weeks.

Sam Raimi’s Send Help Marks His Horror Return After Almost Two Decades

20th Century Studios has unveiled the official trailer for “Send Help,” the latest horror film from director Sam Raimi, starring Rachel McAdams and Dylan O’Brien. Unlike Raimi’s previous horror movies like “The Evil Dead” and “Drag Me to Hell,” which focused on the supernatural and were known for their over-the-top style, “Send Help” seems to be a more grounded survival horror. It appears to be a story focused on real-world dangers, with no ghosts, spirits, or demons in sight.

Send Help follows two former coworkers who find themselves stranded on a deserted island after a plane crash. Their professional rivalry quickly complicates their struggle for survival. Rachel McAdams plays Linda, whose career is hitting a roadblock when her colleague, Bradley (Dylan O’Brien), unexpectedly takes over the company following his father’s death – a quick appearance by Bruce Campbell. The existing tension between them carries over to the island, allowing director Sam Raimi to explore humorous social commentary, similar to what he did in his film Drag Me to Hell.

The screenplay for “Send Help” is by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift, who previously wrote Freddy vs. Jason and Friday the 13th. The film’s score was composed by Danny Elfman, marking his tenth project with director Sam Raimi. “Send Help” opens in theaters on January 30th, with early screenings available starting January 24th – tickets are on sale now!
