Recent updates for the upcoming fighting game, Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, revealed a new character at the Arc World Tour Finals. Along with the new addition, three previously showcased fighters were also highlighted. The game’s unique team structure is making it difficult for fans to guess which characters will be playable next.
When Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls launches, it will feature a starting roster of 20 characters, with plans to add four more fighters as downloadable content shortly after. The game’s characters are organized into five teams, each led by a central character who has a connection to the other three team members. While Storm’s X-Men team was the first revealed, Spider-Man and his team were showcased at the World Tour Finals.
Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls Introduces The Amazing Guardians Team In Its Latest Trailer

The latest Spider-Man trailer introduced a new team, “The Amazing Guardians,” bringing together Star-Lord, Ms. Marvel, and Peni Parker alongside Spider-Man. While the team lineup was unexpected, the trailer highlighted a fun and natural connection between all the characters. Fans had previously speculated about Spider-Man and Ms. Marvel teaming up for a more grounded, street-level adventure, but this new group is a surprising and fresh direction.
Peni Parker is deeply connected to the Spider-Man mythos, existing within the expansive Spiderverse seen in comics and animated movies. Her fighting style in Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls stands out thanks to her large, high-tech mech suit, SP//dr, which is unlike any other character. While a team of street-level fighters and Spider-themed heroes fits with Spider-Man leading the charge, the inclusion of Star-Lord makes it hard to guess what’s coming next.
Star-Lord, a key member of the Guardians of the Galaxy alongside characters like Gamora, Rocket Raccoon, and Groot, caused some speculation when he was revealed as a team leader in Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls. Fans wondered which existing team – featuring heroes like Storm, Spider-Man, Captain America, Doctor Doom, and Ghost Rider – he would best fit with. This new trailer answers that question and also opens up exciting possibilities for future team compositions.
Spider-Man’s Leadership Creates A Group Never Seen Together In Comics

It might be surprising, but “The Amazing Guardians” aren’t from Marvel Comics – they’re a unique team created for the Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls game. This team is special because it’s the first of its kind. The game limits teams to four members, and the characters were chosen to work well together. Star-Lord’s confident attitude complements Ms. Marvel’s energy and Peni Parker’s quirky personality, while Spider-Man provides humor and leadership to keep the group moving forward.
Though it might seem like a way to use less popular characters, this team is surprisingly different from what players expected. When the Unbreakable X-Men team was announced, people thought future teams would be limited to certain fighters based on their leader. However, Spider-Man’s team allows for much more creative and unexpected combinations than many predicted.
The Marvel Fighting Game’s Remaining Roster Could Reveal More Unique Teams

There are just three teams left to announce in Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, with only eight characters still to be revealed. We haven’t seen the teams led by Captain America, Doctor Doom, and Ghost Rider yet. Interestingly, Spider-Man’s team is a bit of a wild card and might surprise us. Fans have generally expected Doctor Doom to assemble a team of villains, but it looks like anything is possible at this point.
Unlike some team-based games, Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls doesn’t require strong connections between all characters on a team. While a character like The Promoter might be linked to the final boss, teams don’t need a shared history. For example, Star-Lord and Spider-Man are similar in personality and share a name, but that’s where their connection ends. Similarly, Ghost Rider’s team doesn’t have to be exclusively made up of the Midnight Sons, and teams built around themes like “Villains” or “Avengers” aren’t mandatory. Teams can be built freely without strict adherence to existing groups or concepts.
With all the team leaders revealed, Iron Man is now the only character left who could potentially join from any background, similar to how Star-Lord was introduced. This unpredictability is great news for Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, as it opens the door to a much wider range of characters and keeps the game fresh as it develops before its 2026 launch.
Now that The Amazing Guardians have joined Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, we want to know: what other teams would you like to see added to the game? Share your thoughts in the comments or discuss them on the ComicBook Forum!
