A new Marvel game is now available on the PlayStation Store for PS5 and PS5 Pro. Sadly, it’s not available for PS4 owners. Early reviews from players on the PlayStation Store are very positive, giving the game an impressive 4.83 out of 5 stars – that’s a 96.6 on a 100-point scale! This high score from players contrasts with lower scores from professional critics, which is a trend we’ve been seeing more and more often.
PlayStation 5 owners can now play Marvel Maximum Collection on the PlayStation Store, a release from Limited Run Games. This collection brings together six classic Marvel games from the arcade and various home consoles of the 8-bit and 16-bit eras. The games included are X-Men: The Arcade Game, Captain America and the Avengers, Spider-Man/Venom: Maximum Carnage, Venom/Spider-Man: Separation Anxiety, Spider-Man/X-Men: Arcade’s Revenge, and Silver Surfer. These titles span multiple systems, including Arcade, Sega Genesis, Game Boy, NES, SNES, and Game Gear, offering a wave of nostalgia for gamers who remember playing them in the 1990s.
Classic Marvel Games With New Features
These aren’t simple re-releases of the original games. They’ve been enhanced with features like rewind, save states, and a new music player. Each game also includes a digital archive and a ‘digital museum’ of content. For X-Men: The Arcade Game, they’ve even added rollback netcode for smoother online play. Plus, you’ll find options to customize the display, including filters that mimic older CRT screens.
This collection of Marvel games is available on PS5 for $25. While those with a PS5 Pro won’t find any special enhancements for these games – which isn’t unexpected, as Limited Run Games hasn’t heavily supported that console – they do focus mostly on older, retro titles, so it’s somewhat understandable. Still, their support for the PS5 Pro has been disappointing. Keep in mind you’ll also need a PlayStation Plus subscription to play the online multiplayer modes in certain games within the collection.
