New Marvel Rumor May Be the Best News Spider-Man Fans Have Gotten in Ten Years

This year, Spider-Man is swinging back onto the big screen with the upcoming film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, who also directed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. While fans were already looking forward to Cretton’s take on Spider-Man, a recent rumor has generated even more excitement about the future of the character and those around him – some are calling it the best news for Spider-Man fans in a decade.

According to DanielRPK, Sony is now supposedly more willing to let Marvel Studios use Spider-Man characters in their films. This is great news for fans hoping to see more collaborations between the two studios beyond Tom Holland’s Spider-Man appearing in major Marvel events.

Why Sony Sharing More Characters With Marvel Studios Is Such A Huge Deal

To see why this is important, we need to remember how the original agreement between Sony and Marvel came about. On February 9, 2015, Sony announced that Spider-Man would join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This led to a plan for Sony to make a Spider-Man movie with involvement from Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige. That collaboration first appeared in Captain America: Civil War, followed by the Spider-Man: Homecoming film.

The collaboration between Marvel and Sony was a big success, with both Spider-Man films performing very well. Spider-Man first joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Captain America: Civil War as an ally of Iron Man, and Iron Man later played a key mentor role in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Since then, Spider-Man has been in two Avengers movies – Infinity War and Endgame – and Nick Fury had a significant part in Spider-Man: Far From Home. Overall, the arrangement has been mutually beneficial for both franchises.

Beyond Spider-Man, we haven’t seen much interaction between the Sony-owned Marvel characters and the main Marvel Cinematic Universe. Though Tom Holland’s Spider-Man appears in the MCU, Sony has been focused on building its own Spider-Man universe with separate films. While the ‘Venom’ movies have been successful, other attempts like ‘Madame Webb,’ ‘Kraven,’ and ‘Morbius’ haven’t performed well at the box office.

If the rumors are true, we might start seeing more characters and storylines shared between different franchises, which would be great for everyone involved. Imagine Spider-Man heroes like Miles Morales and Ghost-Spider teaming up with other MCU heroes in a movie! The same could happen with villains. While we’ve seen some Spider-Man villains like Mysterio and Green Goblin recently, there are plenty more – like Doctor Octopus, Sandman, and Electro – who could create exciting new stories in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, along with others like Rhino, Hobgoblin, and Mister Negative.

Spider-Man has a rich history of team-ups with other characters like Moon Knight, The Punisher, and Silver Sable, which could provide great storylines for movies. With Sony and Marvel Studios now potentially collaborating more closely, we might finally see some of those classic Spider-Man team-up adventures on the big screen. This collaboration would be a positive development, as both Sony’s Spider-Man universe and the Marvel Cinematic Universe could benefit from fresh energy.
