Prepare yourself, as we’re nearly due to revisit the wondrous realm of Wakanda! On Monday, Disney+ unveiled the first official trailer for the four-episode limited series, Eyes of Wakanda. Hailing from Marvel Studios Animation (similar to X-Men ’97) and executive produced by Ryan Coogler, this captivating prequel will delve into the hidden past of the Kingdom of Wakanda when it debuts on August 1. Previously slated for a release on Aug. 27, its premiere has been moved up by several weeks!
The character referred to as ‘The Lion’ (played by Cress Williams in Black Lightning) remarks in the clip that Wakanda is a land shrouded in mystery. This sneak peek features Noni, a Dora Milaje member from 1260 B.C., voiced by Winnie Harlow, and Iron Fist, the guardian of K’un-Lun (played by Jona Xiao), who is masked. Historically, The Lion explains, agents have been dispatched worldwide to carry out missions that Wakanda wishes to keep hidden.
Journey of the Heroes of Wakanda”
This narrative unfolds the thrilling tales of valiant warriors hailing from Wakanda across different eras. In this globetrotting adventure, our protagonists embark on perilous quests to recover Vibranium relics from the adversaries of Wakanda. They are known as the Hatut Zaraze, and this is their epic saga.
The Hatut Zeraze, referred to as Wakanda’s covert operations unit, frequently embark on missions to recover stolen Vibranium. However, they must also maintain confidentiality to protect Wakanda from potential threats. According to Brad Winderbaum, Head of Marvel Television and Marvel Animation, the series unfolds within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Hatut Zaraze face various trials as they remain faithful to Wakanda while exploring the wider world.
Todd Harris, the mastermind behind the series and the artist who worked on both “Black Panther” movies and Marvel’s “What If…?”, views animation as a fantastic leveler when it comes to locations. As our show is filled with globe-trotting adventures, he explains that Egypt can be just as expensive as New York City, while the moon carries the same cost as Ohio. The constraints associated with physical filming across different parts of the world are not present in animation. This freedom enables us to envision a perfect representation of an era untouched by human history.
For quite some time, this idea has been brewing in my mind, and now I’m ready to share it,” Harris went on. “Wakanda, as a symbol, is something I strongly believe in – a place that stands independent without needing to expand. It’s set its boundaries, and it won’t allow those boundaries to be violated by itself or anyone else.
Starring Winnie Harlow, Patricia Belcher, Larry Herron, Adam Gold, Lynn Whitfield, Jacques Colimon, Jona Xiao, Isaac Robinson-Smith, Gary Anthony Williams, Zeke Alton, Steve Toussaint, and Anika Noni Rose” – The series debuts with all four episodes on August 1st, only on Disney+.
