A new game exclusive to Nintendo consoles (Switch, Switch 2, and PC) is receiving high praise and is currently one of the best-rated games of 2026, with a score of 86 on Metacritic. This puts it at number eight among all new games released this year. Interestingly, it’s even scored higher than Capcom’s recent hit, Pragmata, which also has an 86, but falls slightly short of the 87 needed to surpass this Nintendo title.
The adventure game OPUS: Prism Peak launched on April 16th, developed by Sigono and published by Shueisha Games. While it’s the fourth game in the OPUS series, it’s a completely new story – the developers call it a “spiritual sibling” to the others. It’s been very well-received, earning a score of 86 on Metacritic and a 91% positive rating from its 382 user reviews on Steam (the Nintendo eShop doesn’t offer user reviews).
One of 2026’s Best Games So Far
Currently, only a handful of games have higher ratings than OPUS: Prism Peak: Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection, Nioh 3, Perfect Tides: Station to Station, Hermit and Pig, Mewgenics, Resident Evil Requiem, and Pokémon Pokopia. However, it’s unlikely to be a major contender for Game of the Year, as that award usually goes to more well-known titles. The main games being discussed for that award right now are Resident Evil Requiem, Pokémon Pokopia, and possibly Pragmata. While Crimson Desert might also be considered, its score on Metacritic probably won’t be high enough.
This game is a story-driven adventure where your choices shape the plot and lead to multiple different endings. You play as a tired photographer who gets stuck in a strange place called the Dusklands, alongside a young girl who doesn’t remember anything. They have to work together to solve the mysteries of this land and find their way back home, and you’ll use your camera as a key tool to do so.
The new Nintendo game is available now for $24.99, and it’s currently 10% off as a launch discount. Players can expect to spend around 10 hours completing the game.
