New Nintendo Switch 2 Exclusive Announced Brings Back 1990s NES Series

A new game for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 has been revealed, and it’s a continuation of a series that first appeared on the NES in the 1990s. Currently, the game is only scheduled for release in Japan, and considering past releases in the series, it might stay that way. However, players outside of Japan will likely be able to import the game or create a Japanese Nintendo account to play it. Keep in mind that the game currently doesn’t offer English language support, so players will need to be able to understand Japanese.

Game Addict and ParityBit have just announced the latest game in the Derby Stallion series, called Derby Stallion 2. This sequel follows the 2020 Derby Stallion game, which was a fresh start for the series and only released in Japan. Because the first game wasn’t available outside of Japan, it’s likely this new installment won’t be either.

About the New Switch 2 Game

In this game, you start with a small ranch and one horse. Your goal is to build a thriving horse stable by breeding, training, and racing your horses. By carefully managing bloodlines over generations, you’ll strive to breed the perfect thoroughbred – the greatest racehorse ever known.

The Derby Stallion series began in 1991 with a game for the NES. This new release will be the 25th in the series, a significant milestone. While the games have occasionally appeared on other platforms, and sometimes been exclusive to them, Derby Stallion has largely remained a Nintendo-only franchise. It’s currently unknown whether Nintendo financially supports or publishes these games, or if the developer simply chooses to release them exclusively on Nintendo systems.

Players in Japan and the West can expect the game to launch on September 24th, both in stores and as a digital download. Currently, only a standard edition is planned, priced at 9,980 yen. With the current exchange rate, that works out to around $60 USD, making it a very affordable option.
