Nintendo is planning to conduct playtests for a new service coming to Nintendo Switch Online. A group of players will be chosen to try out this potential new feature during an upcoming round of testing, which takes place between July 28th and August 10th. This gives gamers an opportunity to preview a possible upgrade for the Nintendo Switch Online service. Applications are currently being accepted, so if you own a Nintendo Switch or Switch 2 console, you can apply to possibly participate in these tests.
The specific service being evaluated hasn’t been definitively identified yet, but Nintendo has mentioned that it was previously tested. As per the instructions in the application guidelines, “This is a repeat test of the same service we assessed back in October 2024.” Since the Switch 2 wasn’t released during those earlier tests, it seems Nintendo wants to gauge user response to this unspecified new service on the upcoming Switch 2 platform.
We’re planning another test for the NintendoSwitchOnline: Playtest Program. Starting at 8:00 AM PT on July 21st, members with Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack can sign up to join, on a first-come, first-served basis. For more details, check it out!

In essence, participants from the initial testing phase haven’t shared much detail about the specific aspects that were tested. Therefore, we’re unsure of the exact nature of the service. However, feedback from earlier testers suggests it might be a game, and one that garnered positive reactions from fans. If you’re curious to experience the buzz, consider applying for the second round of Nintendo Switch Online playtesting. Notably, individuals who took part in the first round are allowed to rejoin and explore the novelties of this new testing phase. Yet, it’s not compulsory to have been involved in round one to apply for this fresh Nintendo playtest opportunity.
