Sony is renowned for its impressive collection of exclusive first-party games, which often play a significant role in driving console sales. These unique titles are usually unveiled during Sony’s dedicated events like PlayStation’s State of Play, generating excitement due to their sneak peeks at new and undisclosed games. Recently, there has been talk about when the next PlayStation State of Play event might be held by Sony. Although specific games have not been hinted, fans can make educated guesses based on the timing and upcoming game launches around that period.
As reported by trusted insider Jeff Grubb, it’s expected that a PlayStation State of Play event will take place in September, likely towards the end of the month. This information was shared on Game Mess Mornings, where Grubb stated he feels confident in hinting at a potential State of Play or PlayStation Showcase announcement.
According to Grubb, they might be arranging an event called State of Play, or possibly, a Showcase, although it’s more likely to be State of Play, which is set to occur sometime at the end of September, or even before that date.
Grubb is also considering if Fairgame, a live-service heist game that’s been surrounded by controversy and uncertainty for a while now, might make an appearance at this State of Play event or even in the future. There are other promising contenders as well.
As the release date of Ghost of Yotei draws near on October 2nd, there’s a strong possibility that it will be featured during an upcoming State of Play in September. In preparation for this, Sony and Sucker Punch have shared various promotional videos, suggesting that this event may serve as the last opportunity to generate excitement for the game before its launch.
Other options might involve checking out the latest game from Santa Monica Studio. It’s possible that Insomniac’s Wolverine could show up, or perhaps even Saros by House Marque. Naturally, soulslike enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating a potential reveal of Bloodborne 2, alongside fans of Hollow Knight: Silksong. There’s also talk about the possibility of Marathon being featured in this rumored State of Play event.
As a devoted fan, I see a promising future for Sony, though some of us remain apprehensive about their new business approach. Interestingly, Helldivers 2 marks the first time a Sony title transitions from PlayStation 5 to Xbox Series X/S. However, it’s crucial to view these rumors and leaks with a healthy dose of skepticism. After all, even reliable sources like Grubb have been known to miss the mark at times, so this could be another instance where things aren’t exactly as they seem.
