PlayStation 5 is getting a potential update that could significantly change how the console works. Sony usually tests new features with a small group of players first, through a beta program, to make sure everything runs smoothly before releasing it to everyone. While not every beta feature makes it to all PS5s, most do within a few weeks or months. Now, a new trial version of an update gives us a glimpse of what Sony might be planning for the PS5 next.
A PlayStation 5 user shared a redesigned home screen on the PlayStation subreddit, highlighting upcoming changes to the PS5 interface. Since the console launched in 2020, the home screen hasn’t seen major updates, with only smaller additions like the Welcome Hub. Now, Sony is planning a significant overhaul, moving key apps – like PS Plus, the PS Store, and your game library – to a new bar at the top of the screen. You’ll be able to scroll through this bar using the L1 and R1 buttons, keeping your games front and center.
This update is a welcome improvement for PS5 owners, making it easier to find what you’re looking for without so much scrolling. The PS5 interface was already decent, but important features were sometimes hidden within a long row of icons. Moving those key features to a dedicated menu at the top of the screen is a really helpful change.

When Will This PS5 Update Release for Everyone?

This new PS5 home screen isn’t available to everyone just yet. A user on Reddit who’s involved in the PS5 beta program shared that they’re seeing the change early. If you’re not part of the beta test, you won’t have access to it on your PS5 right now.
Considering PlayStation’s past behavior, we likely won’t have to wait long for this PS5 user interface update to be released worldwide. Beta tests usually don’t last very long, so we can expect the update to roll out sometime in April or early May. We’ll share official news from Sony as soon as it’s available here on ComicBook.
