Sony has reportedly improved the inner workings of the DualSense controller to make it more durable and last longer.
Recent testing by a Polish console modder and controller expert shows that the newest PS5 controller (model CFI-ZCT2W) is designed to improve performance and comfort during extended gaming sessions.
He points to the removal of a second microphone and optimised electronics for the improvements.
Testing shows the new controller lasts for more than 15 hours of continuous gaming, and includes features like adaptive triggers and realistic vibrations.
According to the spokesperson, this improvement is the result of five years of work refining the hardware. Sony made significant internal changes between the BDM-010 and BDM-060 models, which boosted performance and dramatically reduced battery consumption, even with the standard 1560mAh battery.
He also points out that devices are generally cooler when charging, thanks to improvements in how they’re designed.
We haven’t had a chance to test this new device yet, but the initial reports are encouraging.
If you’re buying a PS5 controller (DualSense) and want to make sure it’s the updated version, check the box for the product code CFI-ZCT2W. This applies to all new controllers, including recently announced limited editions like the Genshin Impact controller, as they all include these improvements.
Earlier this year, rumors suggested Sony was working on a new PS5 controller with a replaceable battery, but it’s unclear if those rumors were true.
It’s natural for the company that makes the hardware to keep improving its design. This happens with each new version, and is often done to make production cheaper.
