PlayStation fans are getting a nostalgic treat with a brand new game coming exclusively to PS5! It’s a revival of a series that hasn’t been seen on PlayStation since the PS2 days – all the way back in 2003 – though its origins actually go back to the 90s on Sega consoles. While we don’t have a release date yet, or know if it will be optimized for the upcoming PS5 Pro, you can check out the first trailer below.
Fans have been waiting nearly 20 years for a new *Tokyo Xtreme Racer* game on PlayStation! The latest installment, coming soon as a PS5 exclusive from Genki, marks the series’ return since *Tokyo Xtreme Racer 3* debuted on the PS2 in 2003. Many PlayStation enthusiasts had almost lost hope of ever seeing another game in the series.
About the Game + Trailer
Tokyo Xtreme Racer has been available on Steam in early access since January. This means the full game wasn’t yet released. Now, the complete game will launch on both PC and PS5 simultaneously, and those are currently the only platforms confirmed.
Even though it’s still in early access, players on Steam are really enjoying this retro-style racing game. It currently has over 8,200 reviews, and an incredible 96% of them are positive. This gives the game Steam’s highest possible rating: “Overwhelmingly Positive.”
Similar to older games like *Tokyo Xtreme Racer*, this title combines realistic driving with fast-paced arcade action, all set in a futuristic, closed-off version of Tokyo. Players can modify their cars and race to achieve top speeds.
Price and PS5 Pro Support
The price of *Tokyo Xtreme Racer* isn’t listed on the PlayStation Store, but it’s currently $49.99 on Steam, which is likely the price we’ll see on PlayStation as well-though prices can sometimes increase after the game’s initial release. There’s no indication the game will be optimized for the PS5 Pro, and with many games skipping Pro support, it’s unlikely to happen. However, the game’s nostalgic appeal should still attract plenty of players.
With 2025 nearly finished, it looks like this game will likely be a PlayStation 5 exclusive releasing in 2026, similar to games like *Marvel’s Wolverine* and *Saros*. Plus, if it were coming out in 2025, we probably would have heard about that date already with this announcement.
We’d love to hear your thoughts! Leave a comment below or join the discussion on the ComicBook Forum. Are you planning to play this game when it’s released on PS5?
