Sony has begun releasing a new software update for the PlayStation 5, bringing significant improvements and features, especially for the upcoming PS5 Pro.
The company says the new system software will be available globally in the next few days. If you don’t want to wait, you can try to download it now by manually checking for updates in your system settings.
If you need help with this, go to Settings, then System, then System Software, then System Software Update and Settings, and finally, select Update System Software.
If the console tells you you’re already up to date, then you can always try again later.
As we’ve mentioned before, some games, including Silent Hill F and Final Fantasy Rebirth, will be updated to work with PSSR 2.
Others will take advantage of a universal toggle in the Screen and Video section of the Settings menu.
I’m really excited about this because it looks like they’re trying to get this new, better upscaling tech working with programs I already have, even if those programs weren’t specifically updated for it. Basically, they’re trying to make it work ‘out of the box’ with everything!
Sony warns that this new feature could potentially cause problems, so even though it’s been thoroughly tested, you can always turn it off if you’re not satisfied with how it works.
Generally, this is a very exciting update for the PS5 Pro, and it’s expected to finally unlock the console’s true capabilities as a mid-generation upgrade.
Mark Cerny, the system architect, promised the console’s upscaling technology would get better, and we’re now seeing that happen.
PlayStation fans have a lot to be excited about! This new technology is the result of a continued partnership with AMD – a collaboration known as Project Amethyst. Because of this, we can expect to see similar improvements in the PlayStation 6 when it’s eventually released.
