Between September 30th and October 7th, a new RPG and the latest game in the popular *Pokemon* series were the second best-selling titles on Steam, just behind *Battlefield 6*. It’s a strong launch for the RPG, especially since it came out on October 3rd and costs the full $69.99. However, the exact number of copies sold is still unknown.
Bandai Namco and Media Vision launched *Digimon Story: Time Stranger* on October 3rd for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X. It’s the seventh installment in the “Story” series, and the first new release since 2017’s *Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth – Hacker’s Memory*. While critics gave it a respectable score of 78 on Metacritic, players seem to love it even more. The game currently boasts a 92 user score on Metacritic and a 92% approval rating on Steam.
One of the Best RPGs of 2025?
Considering the strong RPG releases of 2025, including titles like *Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2* and *Clair Obscur: Expedition 33*, calling *Digimon Story: Time Stranger* the best RPG of the year would be a stretch. However, saying it’s *one of* the best isn’t far-fetched. While games like *Monster Hunter Wilds* and *Assassin’s Creed Shadows* have higher scores from critics, players generally rate *Digimon Story: Time Stranger* more favorably. So, considering everything, it’s reasonable to include *Digimon Story: Time Stranger* among the year’s best RPGs – something you wouldn’t normally expect from a *Digimon* game.
The new RPG is available on Steam for $70 and is confirmed to work well with the Steam Deck. The game offers a lot of content – completing the main story takes around 35 hours, and with side quests, you can easily spend 50 hours or more playing. That works out to roughly $1 per hour of gameplay. However, our review team noted that the game’s length can sometimes feel repetitive and become a bit of a grind.
If you’re looking for a free game on Steam, there’s a 2025 release you can download right now. Otherwise, if you’re willing to spend $70, the new Digimon game is worth a look.
