New RPG Combines Pokemon & EverQuest For a Fresh Take on Creature Collecting

While Pokémon is the most famous creature-collecting game, many others exist, ranging from rivals like Digimon to relaxing titles like Moonstone Island. Despite legal challenges for games such as Palworld, this genre continues to grow. Now, a new independent game studio – comprised of developers formerly at companies like Blizzard, Riot, and Maxis – has announced its first project. It’s a creature collector with a strong focus on storytelling and RPG elements.

The new game, called KinForge, is the debut title from Seeker Games, a fresh indie studio created by experienced developers from major gaming companies. It’s a cooperative action RPG where you collect creatures. Despite sounding complex, KinForge looks like it could offer a unique twist on the popular creature-collecting genre. Here’s a rundown of everything we know about it so far.

KinForge Is a Narrative-Driven Co-Op RPG That’s “Hopeful, Not Cozy”

In KinForge, players enter a world where powerful nature spirits, called Elementals, have been twisted and controlled by ruthless corporations seeking profit. Now, the Elementals are rebelling and searching for allies – individuals who can see into a hidden, magical world and form bonds with them. Players take on the role of these special people, chosen to connect with and fight alongside these ancient, magical creatures.

Like other monster-collecting games, each Elemental creature in KinForge has special abilities you can use in battles. Players can join forces with friends to journey through a damaged world and combat the growing Corruption. If you’ve wished for a Pokémon game with a stronger focus on cooperative play, KinForge seems to fit the bill. In fact, the game was specifically designed to be a social experience. According to Travis McGeathy, co-founder and Chief Creative Officer at Seeker Entertainment, KinForge is built around the same social connections that made games like EverQuest so popular and enduring.

The game centers around a hopeful story of overcoming challenges, though it won’t be a lighthearted experience. It blends action-packed combat with RPG elements, the ability to collect creatures, and social interactions, all designed to connect players. Gameplay will alternate between completing missions and returning to a central hub – a safe space where players can heal, craft items, and build relationships before embarking on their next adventure.

KinForge is currently in the early stages of development, and the team is initially focusing on a PC release. If the PC launch goes well, they may consider releasing it on consoles later on. The game isn’t on Steam yet, but you can follow Seeker Games on social media for the latest news and updates.
