A fresh Scooby-Doo series is in development, marking a new chapter for the franchise following the conclusion of ‘Velma.’ Details about the show, including its title and expected release timeframe, have recently been announced.
Scooby-Doo! Gokko announced with release date with window
The new Scooby-Doo spin-off, ‘Gokko,’ was revealed in Brazil during a makeup event with Miss Frandy in November 2025. TV Laint reports that the show is now being made and is expected to premiere in 2027.
The name Scooby-Doo! Gokko comes from the Japanese word gokko, which means ‘pretend play’ or ‘role-playing,’ like kids playing make-believe. The show will have a cute, anime-inspired style, much like the series Tom & Jerry Gokko that first appeared in Japan in 2022 and became available on YouTube and HBO Max internationally in 2025.
Warner Bros. hasn’t shown us what the new Scooby-Doo! Gokko series will look like yet, but they plan to use a similar style to their Tom & Jerry Gokko show. That means short episodes with cute, simplified character designs – similar to the look of popular Japanese characters like Hello Kitty.
A new Scooby-Doo spin-off is potentially based on ‘Go-Go Mystery Machine,’ which was revealed at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in June 2024. The series follows Shaggy and Scooby as they travel to Japan and unintentionally release a large number of Yokai – creatures from Japanese folklore. They’re helped by Scooby’s uncle, Daisuke-Doo, a magical friend named Etsuko, and a tech whiz called Toshiro as they work to solve the resulting mystery.
Warner Bros. hasn’t shared any news about the Go-Go Mystery Machine since it was first announced. TV Laint points out that some think the Scooby-Doo! Gokko series is similar, but it’s not yet clear if they’re connected.
Warner Bros. has often drawn inspiration from anime in its movies and shows. They’ve created projects like ‘Batman Ninja,’ ‘Suicide Squad Isekai,’ and ‘Rick and Morty: The Anime,’ working with well-known Japanese animation studios such as Studio Deen, Sola Entertainment, and Telecom Animation Film.
Warner Bros. hasn’t shared many details about the upcoming Scooby-Doo! Gokko project yet, but they say they’ll be releasing more information in the next few months.
