The excitement among players about this 2nd set is palpable, but some long-time Shadowverse gamers have expressed worry over the game’s economy, particularly for free-to-play (F2P) users and those with lower spending habits.
On June 14th, the game Shadowverse: World’s Beyond was launched and reached a record high of 109,246 players on Steam. However, with the recent release of Infinity Evolved, the number of concurrent players has exceeded this previous peak, now standing at over 120,000 on Steam. Generally, games see their highest player count when they first come out and then stabilize. It’s uncommon for additional content updates to attract as many players as the initial surge of excitement.
The current excitement surrounding Infinity Evolved appears strong enough to surmount the ongoing negative opinions associated with this game since its debut. Fans of Shadowverse, upon the release of Shadowverse: World’s Beyond, took to review-bombing due to their disappointment over it essentially supplanting another version of the Shadowverse Trading Card Game on Steam. Not only were fans displeased about having to rebuild their collections from scratch, but they also found that the economy in this new edition was less favorable for low-spending players.
Developed by the same company (Cygames) in 2016, the card game known as Shadowverse CCG enjoys a generally favorable review rating (“Mostly Positive”) on Steam. The latest comments on this 2016 version reveal a divide among fans regarding the direction that Cygames is steering the economy for the Shadowverse Trading Card Game.
User ffeeii963, on Steam, expressed their passion for the game Shadowverse CCG but noted they primarily play it on mobile and don’t spend many hours. They wrote a review due to the disappointing economy in the second generation of the game, Shadowverse Worlds Beyond, which they find significantly worse than the original. Since support for the original game has ceased, there isn’t much reason to continue playing it. Instead, they are compelled to play in what they call a “hellhole,” where only the Artifact Portal deck seems viable for free-to-play (f2p) players. They implore for an improvement in the economy.
The recently released Infinity Evolved package has sparked renewed debate about the game’s economic system following player discoveries of unexpected changes post-launch. Upon initial inspection, weekly tournament prizes seem diminished, while some gamers anticipated receiving additional free packs simply by logging in.
So they expect us to use our gold every new pack? This isn’t sustainable for f2p player.

If someone were to start in six months, they’d be significantly behind everyone else and have a hard time catching up. The game makes it effortless to feel hostile towards it. In the past, I willingly invested money into the game because the free-to-play experience was enjoyable; now, I find no reason to spend as it feels empty, which is unfortunate and honestly quite sad.
Typically, in such games like Shadowverse: World’s Beyond, players who don’t spend much or opt for the free version should be mindful about how they use their resources. They shouldn’t anticipate having all their preferred cards immediately upon downloading.
