Though Stranger Things has ended after five seasons, the Duffer Brothers aren’t finished with Netflix. They’ve signed a deal with Paramount for future projects, but they’re also returning to the streaming service with a new horror series. Titled Something Very Bad is Going to Happen, it arrives on March 26th, and a recently released trailer hints at a chilling and suspenseful story.
The new horror series is executive produced by the creators of a popular show, Matt and Ross Duffer, but directed by Weronika Tofilska. Tofilska is no stranger to Netflix, having previously directed the critically acclaimed mini-series Baby Reindeer, which was based on a true, thriller-like story. She’s also directed episodes of shows like His Dark Materials, Hanna, and The Irregulars. Though details are still emerging, the trailer for Something Very Bad is Going to Happen suggests a wedding day gone terribly wrong. Viewers will find out more when the series premieres in two weeks.
What’s About to Happen?
The upcoming series, Something Very Bad is Going to Happen, will have eight episodes and feature a talented cast including Camila Morrone, Adam DiMarco, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Ted Levine, and Jeff Wilbusch. Netflix has a strong history of delivering horror content, with successful original movies like the Fear Street trilogy, The Babysitter, Bird Box, and The Platform. They’ve also created scary series such as The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass, Marianne, and Fall of the House of Usher, proving they know how to frighten audiences.
After finishing their current series, the Duffer Brothers—the creators of Stranger Things—are moving to Paramount with a new four-year deal. Although Netflix subscribers will still receive another Duffer Brothers project, one of their other planned shows has been stalled. Previously, it was announced they were developing a live-action version of Death Note, a popular anime about a teenager who finds a notebook that can kill anyone whose name is written in it. It’s currently unknown what projects the Duffer Brothers will be working on at Paramount. With Paramount recently acquiring Warner Bros Discovery, it will be interesting to see how this merger impacts their future collaboration.
