New Single-Player Zombie Game is Dominating the Steam Charts

Zombies have remained a popular theme in games and entertainment for a long time. We’ve seen it in games like The Last of Us, and many survival shooters such as 7 Days to Die and Left 4 Dead. However, a lot of recent zombie games focus on playing with others, either surviving or shooting, which isn’t always what people want. This might be why a new single-player zombie game is currently becoming very popular on Steam.

Brigada Games and Devolver Digital released Quarantine Zone: The Last Check on January 12th. The game offers a fresh take on the post-apocalyptic zombie genre with its first-person simulation gameplay. Players seem to be enjoying this new approach, as Quarantine Zone has consistently attracted between 20,000 and 27,000 concurrent players daily since its release. This is a strong performance for a new indie game that doesn’t rely on cooperative gameplay. According to Steam DB, these numbers have kept Quarantine Zone near the top of Steam’s trending charts for multiple days. The question is, what’s keeping players coming back?

Quarantine Zone Captivates Steam Gamers with a New Take on the Zombie Apocalypse

In Quarantine Zone, you don’t just fight zombies and build defenses. You manage a checkpoint, screening people to prevent the spread of infection. Scan each survivor for signs of illness before allowing them into your base. Isolate anyone who might be turning into a zombie, and deal with those who are beyond help – otherwise, your base could be overrun. One mistake could be disastrous.

This game mainly revolves around identifying and managing survivors who might be infected, but it also includes building and maintaining a base. You’ll be responsible for providing food, medicine, and power to the survivors you clear, and defending against zombie attacks using drones.

Currently, Quarantine Zone has a mostly positive reception on Steam. Players appreciate the game’s affordable price and engaging gameplay, with many drawing comparisons to the popular 2013 indie game Papers, Please, which involves simulating the role of an immigration inspector. However, some reviewers have pointed out a few bugs and accessibility issues for colorblind players, despite the inclusion of a colorblind mode.

Since launching, Quarantine Zone has received its first free update, which includes characters from Dead by Daylight. This is a good sign that the developers will continue to improve the game with bug fixes and new content, keeping the gameplay exciting for players.

You can get the game Quarantine Zone: The Last Check on Steam for $20. There’s currently a 10% discount available until January 26th. If you’re a fan of zombie games, you might also be interested in a bundle that includes Dead by Daylight and Contraband Police.
