After a four-year break, Spider-Man is making his comeback to the big screen in “Spider-Man: Brand New Day“, bringing excitement among fans with sneak peeks from the set. Already, the anticipation has grown due to rumors of appearances by characters like The Hulk and Punisher. Now, it’s being speculated that these are just a few of the villains Spider-Man will encounter, with sources hinting at a lineup of nearly a dozen antagonists.
New information about “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” has surfaced, courtesy of insider @MyTimeToShineH (via ComicBookMovie), who shared a mysterious hint implying that there are more than eight villains in the movie. While this may initially seem excessive for one film, The Cosmic Circus offers an explanation and suggests that these multiple villains will be introduced through a montage sequence at the start of the film, similar to how it was executed in “Fantastic Four: First Steps”. This approach makes the inclusion of eight villains more manageable within the movie’s running time.
A Villainous Roster
It seems you’re curious about the antagonists in the upcoming film, considering previous reports suggest Spider-Man will encounter The Hulk and The Punisher at some stage. The Hulk is said to return to his savage form, while The Punisher remains on the edge, which obviously puts him against Spider-Man. However, it was reported that there are six more villains involved, so who are they?
Earlier speculations have hinted that the primary antagonist in the movie could be Tombstone, aligning with the film’s focus on grittier street-level action. Moreover, it has been suggested that characters like Scorpion, Tarantula, Boomerang, and Ramrod might also make appearances, increasing the roster of Spider-Man’s adversaries by four. Additionally, there are rumors about a possible ally for The Punisher in the mix as well.
If the rumors prove to be correct, we’ll have an intriguing blend of lesser-known villains and well-established mainstays on the horizon. Characters like Scorpion could potentially pave the way for symbiote-related mayhem in future Marvel stories, given that Mac Gargan eventually transforms into Venom in the comics.
A notable aspect is that the montage is intended to present thrilling Spider-Man battles and moreover, demonstrate the transformation of Spidey’s costume as well as his journey as a standalone hero. Since No Way Home concluded with no one recognizing the true identity of Spider-Man, even those closest to Peter Parker, the montage will act as a means to reveal his superhero activities since those events and showcase how he has adapted and progressed over time, encompassing changes in his suit and various enhancements he’s incorporated.
If Marvel manages to execute this plan, it would be an effective method for including some iconic confrontations in the movie without overwhelming the primary narrative. Additionally, it could pave the way for significant plot developments in future installments. Time will tell, but it certainly seems promising.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is slated to hit theaters on July 31st, 2026.
