The latest Star Wars game is everything I’ve hoped for after 25 years of waiting. The Star Wars universe is huge and offers so much potential for gaming. Over the years, many developers have created Star Wars games of all types – from immersive role-playing games to fast-paced action games. We’ve also seen strategy games, flight simulators, and even fighting games set in the Star Wars galaxy.
Racing games are a surprisingly great fit for the Star Wars universe, especially considering the memorable podracing from The Phantom Menace. That original concept spawned a fantastic arcade game, and a new racing title promises to capture that same spirit – which is incredibly exciting news!
Star Wars: Galactic Racer Looks Great

During the Game Awards, Fuse Games announced Star Wars: Galactic Racer, a game fans have been hoping for years to see. It’s scheduled to launch in 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Players will be able to race in a variety of vehicles and fully customize them to their liking. The game will feature a single-player campaign, potentially bringing back Sebulba – Anakin’s fierce competitor from The Phantom Menace’s pod races and a character recently featured in the Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge VR experience. However, the main attraction will likely be the online multiplayer mode.
The recently released trailer, shown at the Game Awards, suggests the game is set after the Empire’s defeat. This allows for storytelling similar to The Mandalorian, focusing on the revival of a galactic racing league. The vast Star Wars universe is a great fit for a racing game, promising creative and exciting tracks for players to experience.
The trailer shows the action happening in places that fans will recognize, like the deserts of Jakku from The Force Awakens and the icy planet Hoth from The Empire Strikes Back. However, expect to see some brand new locations too. This installment seems like a more realistic and enjoyable take on the franchise, shifting the focus from saving the universe to the exciting world of racing for wealth and fame.
I Love Podracing, And I Can’t Wait For It To Be Back

Released in 1999 for the Nintendo 64, Galactic Racers feels like a natural successor to Star Wars Episode I: Racer. The original Racer game, based on the podracing seen in the first Star Wars prequel, included locations and vehicles from the film and was a hit with both critics and players. A popular arcade version followed in 2000, featuring a special podracing seat that gave players a truly immersive experience.
I loved the original Star Wars Racer as a kid. It felt like a fantastic way to expand the universe introduced in the prequel films. Although there was a sequel and some updated versions later on, LucasArts (now Lucasfilm Games) never quite captured the same feeling. That’s why I’m really looking forward to Galactic Racers. It’s using today’s graphics and technology to finally deliver on what the original promised. The game’s story mode will let players experience the galaxy as a racer, and it sounds like there will be plenty of opportunities for new and interesting stories and characters.
Adding a variety of vehicles is a fantastic improvement. The speeder bikes and larger speeders shown in the trailer hint at new and interesting ways to race and experiment with different mechanics. Although we didn’t see any podracers in the trailer, the game’s logo features a large vehicle clearly inspired by Sebulba, suggesting it will be playable. Being able to customize vehicles is something I’ve always wanted in a Star Wars racing game, ever since playing Star Wars Episode I: Racer as a child, and it looks like this game will finally deliver that experience.
Combining fast-paced racing with the world of Star Wars gives the developers a lot of creative freedom – and a chance to explore a relatively untouched part of the Star Wars galaxy. While other games shown at the 2025 Game Awards were more critically interesting, Star Wars: Galactic Racers appeals to a childhood desire for a sequel to a beloved Star Wars racing game.
