New ‘Super Mario Galaxy Movie’ Clip Shows Mario’s First Meeting With Yoshi

With less than a month to go, Universal is preparing to release the sequel to 2023’s hit, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, titled The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. The new film features most of the original cast, plus exciting additions like Donald Glover as the voice of Yoshi. It promises to take the Mario universe to even bigger places, introducing brand new worlds and characters. Universal is starting to heavily promote the movie, hoping it will be as successful as the first film was three years ago, even though it hasn’t had any early preview screenings yet.

So far, the studio has shared several trailers for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, giving fans a preview of Jack Black as Bowser, showcasing new power-ups, and introducing Brie Larson’s character, Rosalina. As promotion ramps up, Universal is also beginning to release full scenes from the film.

Universal Pictures shared two new scenes from The Super Mario Bros. Movie on the Today show before its April 1st release. One clip shows an early meeting between Mario (voiced by Chris Pratt) and Yoshi (voiced by Donald Glover). Yoshi is initially hidden under some rocks, but Mario—sporting his new red and white suit after getting a Fire Flower power-up—offers a friendly greeting. Yoshi emerges, smiles, and happily nuzzles Mario, quickly becoming friends.

The second video clip features Mario and Luigi speeding through the desert on motorcycles, set to the familiar Tostarena theme from the Super Mario Odyssey game. It’s a longer look at footage previously shown of the desert city Tostarena, where Mario and Luigi are sent to investigate a mysterious roar coming from a spooky cave.

Even if Universal doesn’t share more previews of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, what we’ve seen already hints at a much bigger story. Continuing from the end of the first film, fans are finally getting a full look at the beloved dinosaur Yoshi, and footage suggests he’ll have his familiar abilities from the games. These clips confirm he can swallow opponents and launch them from an egg, establishing him as a formidable and powerful fighter in this world.

Tostarena is just one of many new worlds Mario and Luigi will explore in the upcoming movie, adding more richness to their adventure. Universal Pictures is hoping for another blockbuster hit – the first movie earned over $1.3 billion worldwide – and with a strong new cast and a promising storyline, they’re optimistic about achieving that goal.
