New Supergirl Footage Teases Milly Alcock’s Intergalactic DCU Adventure

Following the huge success of the new Superman movie, DC Studios is now focusing on Supergirl as its next big theatrical release. Starring Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, the film is based on the popular comic book series Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. This Supergirl story is a darker, more cosmic revenge quest than the adventures we’re used to with Superman. A first trailer is coming this Thursday, December 11th, but the studio is giving fans a sneak peek with some new footage beforehand.

James Gunn shared a quick, fifteen-second preview of the upcoming Supergirl movie today to build excitement for the full trailer. The short clip gives viewers a fast-paced glimpse of the film’s unique look and feel. Expect plenty of drinking, a rebellious attitude (backed by music from Blondie), and a sense that the story takes place far from Earth. One scene, featuring characters with guns, strongly resembles something from Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy films.

See you tomorrow. #Supergirl

The way this movie is being marketed is similar to how Superman was introduced, with short previews designed to create excitement. However, this initial look shows a clear shift in style from the hopeful tone of the previous film. The darker colors and rougher details suggest a more rugged, Western-like feel, closer to the original comic books. This deliberate choice in look and feel emphasizes DC Studios’ plan to let each film and show develop its own unique style within the larger DC universe. DC also released a poster before even showing the teaser trailer.

Can Supergirl Become More Successful Than Superman?

The trailer for Supergirl sparked a much more enthusiastic response on social media than the first look at the new Superman film. This isn’t unexpected, though. The first Superman movie had to overcome a lot of doubt after years of disappointing films in the previous DC universe, making audiences cautious about another reboot. But Superman proved the new films would be good, and now Supergirl can build on that success and excitement.

The film Superman showed audiences that the new DC Universe feels real and is full of interesting characters. Because of this, fans are eager for the next adventure, which promises to introduce even more favorite heroes on the big screen. A major highlight for many is the introduction of Lobo, played by Jason Momoa. Supergirl marks Lobo’s first appearance in a movie, and fans have been hoping to see Momoa take on the role for years. Seeing that wish come true is incredibly exciting, and the potential for fun interactions between Alcock’s Supergirl and Momoa’s Lobo is particularly appealing.

The project is gaining momentum thanks to the skilled team working on it. Writer Ana Nogueira is becoming a major creative force for the DC Universe, and her Supergirl script impressed James Gunn so much that she’s now writing both a live-action Teen Titans movie and the next Wonder Woman film. This shows the studio has a lot of faith in her vision for Supergirl and believes it will be exceptional.

Supergirl is scheduled to be released in theaters on June 26, 2026.
