The latest poster for the upcoming Supergirl movie surprised everyone by including a character from Star Wars. Actress Milly Alcock will play a Supergirl who is quite unlike her cousin, Superman. Where Superman prefers to stay on Earth, this new Supergirl is eager to explore other planets. The film’s overall feel is wonderfully reminiscent of James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy, and that’s a great thing.
Bilquis Evely recently created artwork for Supergirl that highlights the show’s alien characters, featuring Kara Zor-El with a diverse group of extraterrestrial beings. It quickly caught the eye of Dan, a Star Wars enthusiast and YouTuber from Star Wars Centralized, who spotted a familiar face among them.
What’s a Dor Namethian Doing in Supergirl Anyway?
Dan is the galaxy’s leading expert on the Dor Namethians, a little-known alien race from the Star Wars universe. He first identified them as the most obscure Star Wars aliens in a 2024 video on the Star Wars Centralized YouTube channel. The Dor Namethians originated as concept art for Return of the Jedi, and one, named Brangus Glee, even appeared in a Star Wars trading card game. One was briefly filmed for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but that scene didn’t make the final cut. Given their limited appearances, it makes sense someone brought them to Dan’s attention.
It’s typical for even minor Star Wars characters to have detailed backstories, and Lexo Sooger is no exception. He appeared briefly in The Last Jedi as a massage therapist during a chase scene in Canto Bight. A short story by Rae Carson, titled “Hear Nothing, See Nothing,” revealed that Sooger used to be an assassin but switched to massage therapy, utilizing his skillful hands. As Dan pointed out, a poster featuring Lexo Sooger also exists, referencing his appearance in Supergirl.
Evely’s poster seems to include aliens from the Supergirl movie, which is a funny detail considering Lexo Sooger is also featured. It’s likely this is a deliberate, subtle reference – an Easter egg – to the history of science fiction and, specifically, Star Wars. If so, the DC Universe might actually give more attention to this Star Wars alien than Star Wars itself has! The big question is whether Sooger’s original story will be kept – is this just a visual joke, or will he be a former assassin who now gives massages again? Luckily, we won’t have to wait long to find out.
