A recent hint, along with a new report, suggests that fans might finally be getting Half-Life 3. Valve unexpectedly announced a new Steam console yesterday, and this has sparked speculation about the long-awaited game, which has been rumored for over ten years.
Valve developer Drew Gottlieb hinted at more announcements to come after the reveal of a new Steam console and the Steam VR headset. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Gottlieb joked about having “one less secret,” strongly suggesting Valve is working on multiple projects. This, combined with the new hardware, leads many to speculate about potential exclusive games like Left 4 Dead 3, Portal 3, or Team Fortress 3 to drive sales.
Tease + Report
Alongside the recent hint, a new report from Mike Straw at Insider Gaming suggests Valve has more announcements coming. Straw states that Valve “isn’t done with the big announcements,” and implies further reveals are on the way. While he doesn’t provide specifics, he suggests these announcements will likely be significant.
The timing of these rumors is noteworthy, as The Game Awards 2025 are happening next month. Geoff Keighley, the event’s creator and host, has collaborated with Valve before, notably on a documentary about Half-Life: Alyx. However, if Half-Life 3 is one of the surprises, it seems unlikely Valve would share such a huge announcement with Keighley. It’s more probable they’d reveal it themselves, on their own schedule.
Currently, everything is just based on rumors, but that’s been true for Half-Life fans for years. This time, though, there might be something to the speculation. Rumors surfaced this summer suggesting that Half-Life 3 wasn’t just in development, but nearly completed.
