Okay, folks, we finally have a first look at Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey! Universal Pictures just dropped the official photos, and let me tell you, it’s shaping up to be another visually stunning experience. Mark your calendars – this epic is hitting theaters on July 17, 2026. I’m already counting down the days!
Who is in the new The Odyssey images?
The first image offers a glimpse of Anne Hathaway as Penelope, the queen of Ithaca and wife of Odysseus. Mia Goth, known for her role in “Frankenstein,” will play Melantho, one of Penelope’s servants.
The second image shows Tom Holland, known for his work in Marvel films, playing the character Telemachus, the son of Odysseus and Penelope. This role in The Odyssey is Holland’s second major film planned for 2026; he’s also returning as Spider-Man in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Both movies are scheduled to be released in July 2026.
The new film is a large-scale action story, written and directed by Christopher Nolan. It’s based on the famous ancient poem by Homer. This project continues Nolan’s successful partnership with Universal Pictures, following the acclaimed film Oppenheimer. Nolan and Emma Thomas produced the movie.
Matt Damon will star as the legendary Greek hero Odysseus in the upcoming movie. He’s joined by a fantastic cast including Robert Pattinson, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong’o, Jon Bernthal, Benny Safdie, Elliot Page, Mia Goth, Himesh Patel, Samantha Morton, Will Yun Lee, and other talented actors.
In the original story by Homer, Odysseus is the king of Ithaca, returning home after the Trojan War. While everyone believes he is dead, his wife, Penelope, and son, Telemachus, face a difficult situation as numerous suitors try to win Penelope’s hand in marriage.
