This year marks the 20th anniversary of Okami, the beloved action-adventure game, and its publisher, Capcom, has launched a special website to celebrate.
Okami first came out in Japan on April 20, 2006. Although it wasn’t a huge success initially, it’s now remembered as one of the best games of its time.
The game is remarkable for many things, especially its beautiful, painted art style and the innovative Celestial Brush, which lets you literally paint objects and effects directly into the game world.
You take on the role of Amaterasu, the sun goddess of Japan, who appears as a wolf. Your mission is to save the land of Nippon from a spreading darkness and bring back its beauty and prosperity.
The game’s website recently posted a message thanking fans for their support of Okami over the past years and hinted at exciting plans to celebrate its 20th anniversary.
According to the website, they plan to launch several special projects to celebrate the anniversary, such as commemorative merchandise and events.
A sequel to the beloved game Okami is officially in the works! The announcement came during The Game Awards 2024, and the game is being developed by CLOVERS, a brand new studio. Hideki Kamiya, known for his work on the original Okami, is directing the project.
I don’t think the sequel is coming out anytime soon, but I’m really hoping we get a first look at it this year, since it’s a big anniversary for the game series!
