New Witcher 3 DLC rumours explained: Will it really happen?

After a lot of difficult news lately – including job losses, games being cancelled, and worries about AI impacting gaming hardware – it’s understandable that people are skeptical about rumors of new DLC for The Witcher 3 potentially releasing this year. Good news feels rare right now, so it’s natural to be cautious.

Will it really happen? Well, it’s perhaps more likely than you think!

We’re hoping for better Witcher content in the future, as we didn’t really enjoy season 4.

Plus, this will keep fans happy while we wait for both The Witcher 4 and the remake of the original Witcher game, which we haven’t heard much about since it was first announced.

Let’s pump the brakes on getting too excited and take a look at the rumors surrounding this potential DLC – and realistically assess how likely it is to actually happen.

What are the Witcher 3 DLC rumours?

Besides the strong rumors about a new Witcher 3 DLC, details have been scarce. However, we’ve learned more in the past few days about what it might include.

The most talked-about rumour suggests the next Witcher 3 DLC will be set in a vast desert area called Zerrikania, inspired by the world of Dune. It’s expected to be as substantial and lengthy as the previous expansion, Blood and Wine.

Fans of The Witcher 3 might recall that the land of Zerrikania is mentioned several times in the Blood and Wine expansion, and there’s even a reference to a Manticore School located there.

Fans familiar with The Witcher tabletop RPG will recognize the Zerrikania region, as it’s already been explored in that game.

Rumor has it that Fool’s Theory, the studio currently working on a remake of the first Witcher game, is also developing this expansion.

Some people are guessing the next downloadable content might let you play as Ciri instead of Geralt, but that’s just a rumour for now. Keep reading to find out more!

Will there actually be a new Witcher 3 DLC?

Towards the end of 2025, rumors began circulating that CD Projekt RED was working on something new for The Witcher 3. Over the following weeks, details about this potential downloadable content started to emerge.

Talk of new content for The Witcher 3 started after Borys Nieśpielak, a respected person in the Polish gaming scene, mentioned on his podcast that a new downloadable expansion was planned for release this year.

Anyone can make claims, but in a recent Eurogamer interview, CD Projekt Red’s Adam Nieśpielak referenced a statement from their CFO, Piotr Nielubowicz. During an earnings call, Nielubowicz mentioned that new content, previously discussed, could be released within the next year, based on their current development progress.

According to a recent Eurogamer report, Noble Securities analyst Mateusz Chrzanowski predicts the next paid downloadable content for The Witcher 3 will arrive in May 2026. He also stated he’s completely confident that CD Projekt Red will release major new content sometime this year.

Chrzanowski also stated that this release is intended to start the full marketing push for The Witcher 4.

Apparently, IGN Poland has been hearing rumors for years, and that’s where the information about Zerrikania first started circulating.

Considering everything and the fact that many reliable sources are suggesting it, a new expansion for The Witcher 3 in 2026 is looking increasingly probable!
