Beginner Friendly Healing and Healer Build Guide | New World: Aeternum – Season 10

Weapon of Choice

Healer characters don’t have many weapon options. They primarily rely on the Life Staff, which is the only weapon in the game specifically designed for healing.

So, as a Life Staff user, you’re pretty much stuck building around Focus – that’s the main stat for it. You can put points into Intelligence too, but honestly, it won’t make your heals stronger. It only boosts the damage side of things, which is kinda weird for a healer!

When playing as a Healer, you’ll be entirely dedicated to the Focus stat. This gives you two options for secondary weapons: the Flail & Shield, or Void Gauntlets. Both of these will further improve your ability to support your team.

Okay, so the Flail is seriously awesome. It lets me buff up my teammates, making them stronger and more resilient. Plus, I can really boost our healing – like, get extra healing bursts going! And the best part? I can get rid of those annoying crowd control effects, both on myself and everyone else. It’s a total game-changer for support!

Void Gauntlets focus more on dealing damage. While they can still boost your allies, they also let you weaken enemies by reducing their defenses with a skill called Rend.

If you’re new to these weapons, we suggest using both as a backup to your Life Staff. The best way to decide which one you prefer is to try them both out yourself!

If you’re looking to take things a step further, think about who you’ll be playing with, especially if you usually play with the same people.

If your tank already has the Flail, choose Void Gauntlets. Alternatively, if another healer in your group is using Void Gauntlets, you should pick the Flail. This helps the team be more adaptable, which is beneficial in any situation!

Attributes

Okay, so as a healer main, let me tell you, Focus is everything. Seriously, put most of your attribute points into it – it’s what makes you effective. You’re aiming for 350 Focus by the time you hit level 70, that’s the sweet spot!

Next, focus on increasing your Constitution. This will make your character more durable, which is especially helpful when you’re first learning the game. It’s a good strategy to get it up to 100 as quickly as possible.

For any skill points you have left, put them into the primary stat of your secondary weapon. This means Strength if you’re using a Flail, or Intelligence if you’re using Void Gauntlets. Doing this will increase the damage and usefulness of that weapon.

Once you become more comfortable, you can reduce your Constitution to 50 and your Focus to 300.

This will help you maximize the primary stat on your secondary weapon, getting you closer to the desired stat level. While you might heal for slightly less, you’ll gain more flexibility and usefulness in other areas.

Recommended Skill Tree Setups

There are several ways to build your Life Staff Skill Trees, and the setup shown is a good, all-around example to get you started.

This generally works well, but it’s best suited for close-range classes that focus on healing multiple players at once. It might not be as effective if your team is spread out or fighting enemies from a distance.

In those situations, we suggest using the setup described earlier. Instead of Beacon’s area-of-effect healing, it uses Splash of Light. This ability heals all members of your party within a 25-meter range, making it especially useful for groups with many ranged fighters!

Finally, you can specialize in healing one target at a time. To do this, replace Beacon/Splash of Light with Divine Embrace. Divine Embrace is a very strong single-target heal, making it perfect when your main goal is to keep the tank alive.

Beyond those adjustments, the core abilities stay the same. Sacred Ground lets you create a healing area wherever it’s needed. Orb of Protection heals and strengthens your teammates, and even harms enemies. It’s essential to keep and fully upgrade both of these abilities.

Gearing Recommendations

As a Healer, your priority when choosing gear should be to stay in the Light weight class. The best way to do this is to use a Medium-weight chest piece, and Light-weight gear for everything else.

The primary goal here is optimization – finding the sweet spot where you can remain lightweight while maximizing your defense.

Generally, Perks are the most important thing to focus on. You can find more detailed information about them in our Season 10 gearing guide if you’re interested.

Here’s a list of recommended perks for healers. We’ve ordered them from most to least important, so start with the ones at the top!

  • Sacred II – 5 Stacks
  • Savior II.
  • Healing Breeze II (Ring Only)
  • Mending Protection II – Ideally on the Life Staff for a stronger effect.
  • Refreshment II (Earring Only)
  • Slash Condition II / Thrust Conditioning II – As many as possible, they’re the most common damage types.
  • Slash Protection II / Thrust Protection II (Amulet Only)
  • Elemental Ward IV / Physical Ward IV (Gems) – As many as possible.
  • Enchanted Ward II – As many as possible.
  • Lifestealer’s Draught II.
  • Mortal Aggression II.
  • Vital Synergy II.
  • Keen II / Vicious II – If your gear has Offense Charm sockets, these are your best bets.
  • Keenly Fortified II.
  • Keenly Empowered II.
  • Sundering Stacks II.

There are a lot of helpful benefits to remember, so just take advantage of as many as you can while you’re getting prepared! These benefits mainly help you stay alive and heal more effectively.

Artifacts to Get

Finally, let’s quickly discuss Artifacts. These are powerful items you’ll aim for later in the game, representing the best possible upgrades for your gear. They’re worth working towards because each one has unique and strong benefits!

Let’s start with the Nimble Coat. You can earn this item randomly through the PvP Rewards Track. What makes it special is its perk, which lowers all your ability cooldowns by 8%, letting you use your skills more often.

Okay, so another awesome item you can get is the Old Crown! You earn it through the PvP Rewards Track. It’s a really straightforward boost – it gives you +6 to all your stats. Plus, it has three gem slots, which is amazing for building up your defenses with physical and elemental wards. I’m definitely going to try and stack those!

Next up is the Vengeance Life Staff. You can craft it using Hero’s Artifact Caches with a maximum Gear Score. While it’s not essential – a Legendary Life Staff can perform just as well, or even better – it’s still a solid choice!

This ability makes all healing you do 25% more effective as long as you aren’t currently benefiting from healing-over-time effects from a Life Staff. Plus, your regular attacks will boost both Stamina and Mana recovery for your teammates.

That wraps up our beginner’s guide to healing in New World: Aeternum Season 10. We hope it helps you become a great healer!
