The release of Hollow Knight: Silksong was a major event, which wasn’t unexpected given how eagerly fans have awaited the sequel. Though some found it challenging, most agree Silksong lives up to the high quality of the first game. For those who enjoy this style of game, there’s another promising Metroidvania coming to Xbox Game Pass that’s worth watching out for.
I remember when Crowsworn first popped up on Kickstarter back in 2021. It looked amazing – the developers, Mongoose Rodeo, were clearly aiming for a blend of Hollow Knight, Bloodborne, and even a little Devil May Cry! After the Kickstarter was funded, things got pretty quiet for a while, but now it’s been announced that it’s coming to Xbox Game Pass! Honestly, that news just reignited all the excitement – I’ve been waiting for this game and can’t wait to finally play it.
What is Crowsworn?
As we’ve discussed, Crowsworn takes inspiration from several well-loved games. Visually, it combines the dark, gothic atmosphere of Bloodborne with the charming character designs of Hollow Knight, creating a unique and enjoyable experience in a terrifying world reminiscent of Yarnam. Being a Metroidvania, the game will also feature many different paths and areas for players to discover.
Crowsworn features fast-paced, stylish combat similar to the Devil May Cry series. The developers at Mongoose Rodeo emphasize the game’s precise and fluid controls. Players can customize their character with runes and abilities, and will face over 100 enemy types, including more than 30 challenging bosses. While the boss fights aren’t expected to be as punishing as those in FromSoftware games, they will still provide a good challenge.
For fans of Hollow Knight, Crowsworn seems to be shaping up incredibly well. The development team is even getting a boost from someone familiar with the Hollow Knight series: Matthew Griffin, who previously handled marketing for both Hollow Knight and Hollow Knight: Silksong, is now helping with marketing for Crowsworn. While the team still needs to perfect the gameplay to reach the same level as Team Cherry, having Griffin’s expertise is a significant advantage as they approach release.
We still don’t have a firm release date for the game. When Mongoose Rodeo announced it would be available on Xbox Game Pass, they also said it’s coming to PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch, alongside the already confirmed PC version. So far, there’s no news about a version specifically for the new Switch 2 console, but that could be revealed later.
It looks like we won’t have to wait much longer to play Crowsworn. Games rarely get announced for Game Pass without being released fairly soon after. While delays can happen, this announcement suggests Crowsworn will likely be available to download by next spring. This is just an estimate, but if everything goes smoothly, we can expect the game to arrive soon.
