Within just 11 days of being added to Xbox Game Pass, a chilling new horror game has soared up the ranks, now sitting as the third most-played title on Standard charts and the eighth most popular on Console charts. Given its brevity, it’s quite remarkable that this short but captivating horror game continues to hold its ground among Xbox Game Pass players.
The game we’re discussing is Little Nightmares II, developed by French game studio Tarsier Studios and published by Bandai Namco. As you might guess from its title, it follows up on the 2017 release of Little Nightmares. It falls under the category of horror games combined with action-adventure games, much like its predecessor. Released in 2021, a third installment titled Little Nightmares III is planned for October 10. However, unlike the first two games, this sequel will not be created by Tarsier Studios but by Supermassive Games, who are well-known in the horror game genre for their work on Until Dawn.
Similar to the initial installment of the series, Little Nightmares II was warmly appreciated upon its release, as indicated by its Metacritic ratings in the 80s. Additionally, it achieved commercial success along with critical acclaim. While precise sales figures post-release remain unclear, we do know that it sold over a million copies within its first month on sale.
In this game, a boy wakes up by himself in a forest filled with charred television remnants. As he navigates through hidden dangers and obstacles in the wilderness, he eventually discovers a girl imprisoned in the cellar of a creepy, ominous house. All she has for comfort is a music box. This narrates their shared tale.
The duration for which Little Nightmares II will be accessible through Xbox Game Pass hasn’t been disclosed yet. Neither Microsoft, Tarsier Studios nor Bandai Namco have shared any details about it. However, as long as it remains on Xbox Game Pass, subscribers can buy the game at a 20% discount, making the horror game cost $24 instead of its original price of $30.
The horror game is turning out to be a hit on Xbox Game Pass. For those eager to give it a try, expect to dedicate around 5 to 7 hours of gameplay.
