It’s been a few months into the year, and 2026 still hasn’t seen many major video game announcements. While the year started with a few releases, we’re still anticipating some exciting news. Luckily, today we have a promising new single-player action-adventure game to look forward to! If you enjoy fast-paced games like Hades and appreciate the visual style of shows like Arcane, this one is worth checking out.

Purple Ray Studio, an independent game developer, announced its upcoming game, Koshmar: The Last Reverie, on April 8th. The game has been in development for two years and combines action, adventure, roguelite elements, puzzles, and platforming. I recently had a preview of the reveal trailer and spoke with the developers, and I’m excited to see how the game develops.

Koshmar: The Last Reverie Is Poised to Deliver on Story, Gameplay, And Visuals

Roguelite games are everywhere now, which can make some players hesitant. But Koshmar is much more than just a roguelite. It clearly draws inspiration from games like Hades, Hogwarts Legacy, and Arcane: League of Legends. You can especially see Arcane‘s influence in the game’s beautiful, though somewhat eerie, art style – and that’s a good thing!

I’m really excited about Koshmar: The Last Reverie! The art style looks amazing and perfectly fits the story, which is all about the line between dreams and what’s real. You play as Violet, and you’re basically diving into these crazy, ever-changing Nightmare Rifts that are super dangerous – they can mess with Violet’s mind and even break reality itself! What’s really cool is that your choices actually matter; they affect Violet’s sanity and change the story, including what powers she gets both in and out of fights. Okay, so this game is definitely leaning into a dark and creepy vibe, and I’m here for it! What’s really cool is that the gameplay footage you’re seeing isn’t just cutscenes – it’s actually me playing! Purple Ray Studio is already showing off how fast and action-packed the combat is, alongside the story and world. The way my character, Violet, moves might look graceful, almost like dancing, but don’t let that fool you – this isn’t going to be a walk in the park. You’ll really need to think about how you build Violet’s stats and use her abilities, and timing everything right is key. Plus, you’ll have to use your surroundings to your advantage. The enemies aren’t just going to stand there – they’re coming at you with all sorts of attacks, so you’ll have to learn and adapt to survive in this world of Nightmares.

Beyond fighting, players will explore the city, taking on optional quests and interacting with characters who help reveal the story and the secrets behind the Nightmares. How Violet feels and behaves is affected by your choices – will she stay mentally stable, or will she succumb to madness or escape into fantasy? Your decisions regarding her sanity will significantly change how the game unfolds.
