The previously planned Dead Rising 5 has been cancelled, but Capcom reportedly began developing a new installment in the series back in 2023. According to sources at MP1st, this new game—currently known by the codename “Rec”—will bring back fan-favorite character Frank West and be set in Hollywood.
The game seems to take place on a movie studio lot where players will fight for survival against a crazed movie director obsessed with making the ultimate film. Players will need to team up with other survivors, and reports suggest the Psychopaths will return as the director’s henchmen – though at least one of them is being forced to help.
A cameraman is forced to film everything while carrying a bomb, but Frank saves him quickly. The group of survivors reportedly includes actors, and at least one familiar face: Isabela Keyes, who appeared in Dead Rising 2: Case West and Dead Rising 3. It seems a new zombie virus is spreading, but details are still limited.
The game seems to be bringing back popular features from earlier installments, such as photography and a time constraint. This time, the limit is represented by the director giving out urgent orders that players need to manage and complete in a specific order.
You might be expecting an announcement at The Game Awards, and that’s still a possibility. However, the game is likely still quite a ways off from release. That said, other games have been shown at the event even with distant release dates, so it’s something to keep in mind.
