Finally, after what feels like an eternity of whispers and speculation, I’ve got some exciting news to share as a gamer – Yves Guillemot, the big boss at Ubisoft, has officially confirmed during a shareholder meeting (spotted by Stephen Totilo from Game File) that a brand new installment in the Ghost Recon series is indeed underway!
It appears that the company aims not only at success with their flagship game but also aspires to excel in live services for it. In other words, they plan to keep improving their existing offerings and leverage upcoming releases like “The Division” and “Ghost Recon,” as expressed by Guillemot.
It appears that CFO Frederick Duguet hinted at the fact that they are developing a first-person shooter game. In relation to how the publisher is employing its Tencent investment (which led to a new subsidiary), he mentioned it would be used for the creation of other notable brand names in the future. For instance, Ghost Recon serves as an illustration for their lineup of first-person shooter games.
In 2022, there were first whispers about the upcoming “Ghost Recon” game (code-named “Ovr”), which is said to be inspired by Void Interactive’s “Ready or Not” in terms of its military simulation gameplay and darker theme. It’s also rumored that team-based combat will play a significant role. The game is speculated to enter an internal alpha testing phase this fall, and it may take approximately a year for it to progress to a full release.
The launch is tentatively scheduled for sometime next year, although keep in mind that things may shift. Keep an eye out for further information and developments – official and unofficial – over the upcoming months.
