Capcom has been consistently successful in recent years, becoming a leader in the gaming industry. This success is largely thanks to the Monster Hunter and Resident Evil series. While Monster Hunter has been incredibly popular, it hasn’t always received universal acclaim – the upcoming Monster Hunter Wilds is a good example, as it’s sparked a lot of different opinions. Resident Evil, aside from some smaller, experimental releases, has consistently delivered high-quality games, and recent reports suggest this trend will continue.
Fans can look forward to a new Resident Evil game in 2026, and a remake of Resident Evil – Code: Veronica is reportedly planned for 2027. Code: Veronica continues the story from Resident Evil 2, happening a few months after its events and at the same time as Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. While not as widely known as some other titles, Code: Veronica is highly regarded by critics, boasting a score of 94 on Metacritic.
May Be the Best Remake Yet
A new report suggests the upcoming remake is on track for a 2027 release, with a reveal expected in 2026. Development is reportedly going smoothly, and Capcom is very pleased with the progress. According to Dusk Golem, a reliable source for Resident Evil news, this remake is shaping up even better than the remake of Resident Evil 4 – which was a huge success.
Dusk Golem says that, although they haven’t played Code Veronica Remake yet, those working on the game are very confident about it. Resident Evil games often take a long time to develop because of revisions, but Resident Evil 4 finished ahead of schedule, even after switching development teams. This was because the team really understood what the game needed and did a fantastic job – most parts were successful on the first try. Apparently, Code Veronica is going similarly well, with the team consistently exceeding expectations and receiving overwhelmingly positive feedback like, ‘This is great!’
Keep in mind that this information isn’t official and comes from a source that isn’t always correct. However, this source is generally the most reliable place to find information about the series, and they’re usually right.
Capcom isn’t just working on a remake of Resident Evil – Code: Veronica; a remake of Resident Evil 0 is also likely coming next. However, fans hoping for a Resident Evil 5 remake shouldn’t expect it anytime soon.
