Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, famous for their Yakuza/Like a Dragon series, is progressing with the development of the upcoming Virtua Fighter game. Recently, they’ve shared a new video showcasing some gameplay from
In this one-minute clip, we’re treated to a thrilling battle between two game characters, demonstrating their impressive combo moves. As we watch, we catch glimpses of the finer details in the upcoming fighting game. For instance, one character skillfully dodges an opponent’s sweeping low kick by performing a kip-up while on the ground. Meanwhile, the other character evades an attack by expertly sidestepping at just the right moment.
The upcoming Virtua Fighter project appears to boast an impressive final-round animation, where a slow-motion blow to a character’s face shatters it and sends a tooth flying. Additionally, the game offers a high level of responsiveness due to its intricate animations that react accurately when blocking attacks with precise timing.
The game’s aesthetic leans towards a simplistic design. Although it will likely include health indicators, countdown timers, and other user interface elements, the gameplay demonstrated suggests that Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio is opting for less excessive use of special effects, such as those often seen in games like Tekken. Instead, the strikes and grapples have been presented quite clearly, with the main emphasis appearing to be on the raw martial arts skills of both combatants.
The new Virtua Fighter project still doesn’t have a set launch date, but fans can look forward to learning more about it at the Tokyo Game Show 2025 when further details will be unveiled.
The game was first revealed way back in December 2024, and although we didn’t get to watch any actual gameplay then, the trailer announcing the fight game offered glimpses of stunning visuals due to pre-rendered cinematic clips. We got a better understanding of the game with another trailer released in January. Known as a “pre-development concept video”, this trailer featured in-game footage of one of the fighting stages, and also gave us a sneak peek at how characters like Akira Yuki will appear within the game.
In May, it was confirmed by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio that Wolf Hawkfield would join the cast of the New Virtua Fighter Project. Since the debut of the Virtua Fighter franchise in 1993, Hawkfield has been a mainstay within the roster. For more information about her return, check out the trailer.
