Nic Cage’s MCU Casting Comments Go Viral After Ghost Rider Rumors

Nicolas Cage is making headlines again with renewed talk about a possible return as Ghost Rider in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Cage previously played the character in two Ghost Rider films, and when rumors surfaced about Avengers: Doomsday potentially featuring the Spirit of Vengeance, many fans hoped he’d reprise the role. While those rumors have been debunked, the upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars – which is expected to introduce multiple versions of characters – still leaves the door open for Ghost Rider to appear. Many believe Robbie Reyes would be a better fit for the MCU than Johnny Blaze, who Cage previously portrayed.

You know, I’ve been thinking about Nicolas Cage and his time as Ghost Rider. Apparently, he’s totally cool with the fact that his version isn’t connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He was asked about it recently, and he was pretty direct – he admitted it’s a separate thing, but he doesn’t really care! He even said something amazing: ‘I don’t need to be in the MCU, I’m Nic Cage.’ It’s just a testament to how confident and unique he is, honestly. He doesn’t need a franchise; the franchise needs him.

I’ve heard Nicolas Cage talk about his connection to the Marvel Cinematic Universe before, and it’s honestly amazing! He actually named himself after Luke Cage – his birth name is Nicholas Coppola, but he wanted to forge his own path, especially being Francis Ford Coppola’s nephew. He put it perfectly: why would he ever criticize Marvel? He sees Stan Lee as a kind of artistic father figure, someone who truly named him, and I totally get that! It’s a beautiful story about inspiration and family, both the one you’re born into and the one you choose.

Could Spider-Noir Make Nicolas Cage Part of the MCU?

Nicolas Cage loves comic books and famously spent $150,000 on a first edition copy of Action Comics #1, which introduced Superman. He was originally considered to play Superman in a Tim Burton film, but he ended up starring as Ghost Rider first. Later, he briefly appeared as Superman in The Flash, though he didn’t return as Ghost Rider when characters from that film showed up in Deadpool & Wolverine. Currently, Cage is playing Spider-Noir in a new series on Prime Video.

Rumors suggest the upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars movie might feature characters from various sources, including animated shows. With the third Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse film releasing before Secret Wars, Miles Morales could potentially join the main Marvel Cinematic Universe. This also opens the door for Nicolas Cage to reprise his role as Spider-Man Noir, a possibility he’s hinted at, playfully saying, “You never know!” about his future with Marvel.

It’s highly unlikely Nicolas Cage will play the main Ghost Rider when the character joins the Marvel Cinematic Universe, probably in the upcoming Midnight Sons movie. If Ghost Rider appears with Blade and Black Knight, it will almost certainly be Robbie Reyes. The best way to include Cage would be as an older version of Johnny Blaze – similar to the character from the Midnight Suns video game – who the team seeks out for guidance. While a Spider-Man Noir cameo in Secret Wars would be enjoyable, a small supporting role for Cage as Johnny Blaze in Midnight Sons could be a more meaningful way to finally incorporate the character into the MCU.
