Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor Officially Makes His DC Video Game Debut

Nicholas Hoult, who recently debuted as Lex Luthor in the DC Universe with Superman and Peacemaker Season 2, is expanding his role into gaming. His portrayal of the iconic villain was a hit with fans, and while he made a quick appearance in Peacemaker Season 2, he’ll be back as a major character in Man of Tomorrow in July 2027. In that film, he’ll join forces with Superman to battle Brainiac.

It might surprise many players to learn that Injustice 2 Mobile is still being updated, more than eight years after its initial release with the console and PC versions. The game’s developers announced on X that Nicholas Hoult, who played Lex Luthor in Superman, will be joining the mobile game on December 15th as a new villain emerges in the DC Universe.

From December 15th to December 23rd, you can get the Legendary Lex Luthor for free simply by logging in to Injustice 2 Mobile.

As a huge DC fan, I was really excited to read about this new character! The official site says he’s got some seriously cool, futuristic tech and these awesome robotic Raptors that help him always be one step ahead in a fight. What’s even more unique is how he uses his special abilities – instead of the usual ‘Power’ system, he relies on ‘Funds,’ a resource that’s totally exclusive to him. It sounds like it’ll really change up the gameplay!

Let’s talk about the DC Universe making its mark on Injustice 2 Mobile. While Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor is the latest addition, he wasn’t the first! David Corenswet’s Superman actually touched down back in July, timed with the summer blockbuster release. And it’s not just Superman – his adorable dog, Krypto, is along for the ride, but this version of Krypto is specifically linked to Corenswet’s take on the Man of Steel.

Even though Peacemaker Season 2 didn’t have a big connection to other DC properties (despite Lex Luthor’s appearance), John Cena’s character, Christopher Smith, was added to the Injustice 2 Mobile game back in February 2024.

As a huge fighting game fan, I was really excited to see Superman join the roster of Injustice 2. It was a big deal that he showed up around the same time as his guest appearance in the new Mortal Kombat 1! And his moveset is awesome – he can even summon his mechanical eagle, Eagley, which is just so cool.

James Gunn has stated that the DC Universe will eventually include official video games, but DC Studios is currently prioritizing movies and TV shows, so any game projects are being kept under wraps.

What Comes Next for Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor?

Fans of the DC Universe noticed in Season 2 of Peacemaker that Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor is setting up a major part to play in the overall story. Even while in prison, the brilliant billionaire teamed up with Frank Grillo’s Rick Flag Sr. to build Salvation, a prison for people with superpowers.

Luthor might be freed depending on this new partnership, especially when the events of Man of Tomorrow begin. Flag Sr. and the U.S. Government will likely need Luthor’s intelligence to help combat the global threat posed by Brainiac, for which they are currently searching for an actor to play the role.

Lex Luthor’s intelligence won’t be his only asset in Man of Tomorrow. He’ll also be sporting his famous green and purple Warsuit in the 2027 film. This will allow him to physically match Superman during their fight to save Earth, though it’s likely the two will clash at some point.
