Nick Offerman is a well-known actor, famous for his role as Ron Swanson on the hit TV show Parks and Recreation. Since the show ended in 2015 after seven seasons, he’s continued to work steadily, appearing in popular projects like The Last of Us, Civil War, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, The Life of Chuck, and The Umbrella Academy. Now, Nick is returning to voice acting with the upcoming animated film The Pout-Pout Fish. We recently spoke with Offerman about his work on the film, which takes place in the unique setting of Las Vegas, known as ‘Sin City’.
Many fans may remember Nick Offerman as Mr. Shlubb in the movie Sin City, based on Frank Miller’s graphic novel. Shlubb, a henchman who enjoys luxury, and his partner, Mr. Clump, are primarily known for being beaten up by Bruce Willis’s character, Detective Hartigan. In a recent interview, Offerman shared his disappointment with how his role turned out. He was particularly excited about delivering a lengthy monologue, only to find it was drowned out by Willis’s voice-over during the film. Offerman jokingly called it a classic example of how things work in the entertainment industry.
The Sad Story of Mr. Shlubb
During our conversation, Offerman shared his love for comic books and reminisced about landing a role in Sin City early in his career. He explained that the job was particularly exciting because it came before his breakout role on Parks and Recreation. He described auditioning in a hotel room at the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills for the part of an albino giant, a character he was thrilled to read for as a big fan of Frank Miller’s work. Offerman was amazed he got the part, especially since the filmmakers used movie magic to create a size difference between his character and his co-star, Rick Gomez, who played his sidekick – despite Offerman being about four inches taller in real life. He found it thrilling to witness the filmmaking process firsthand.
This week, on March 20th, the movie The Pout-Pout Fish swims into theaters! Patrick Dempsey, known for his role in Sin City, voices Mr. Fish, the main character. He’s joined by a talented cast including Nina Oyama, Miranda Otto, Jordin Sparks, and Amy Sedaris in this fun, underwater adventure for the whole family.
