Nicole Kidman had one most life-changing hours of her life.
The Academy Award winner clearly recalled how receiving the Oscar in 2003 for her performance in The Hours (2002) significantly altered the course of her career.
Nicole told Zuri Hall that she watched Moulin Rouge, The Hours, and The Others around the same time, during a conversation on Live From TopMob: Oscars 2026 on March 15th.
The 58-year-old looked beautiful in a feathered Chanel gown and will be a presenter at the Conan O’Brien-hosted ceremony at Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre. She shared, “It felt overwhelming then, but also incredibly exciting.” (You can find details on all the stars at the Oscars 2026 red carpet here.)
Following her Best Actress win, Nicole has openly discussed the challenges she was facing in her personal life. This award came after she finalized her divorce from Keith Urban, with whom she has two daughters, Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14. It also followed her divorce from Tom Cruise, with whom she shares Isabella Cruise, 32, and Connor Cruise, 30, which occurred two years prior.
In a 2014 interview with Vanity Fair, she revealed that winning an Oscar was actually a very lonely experience. She explained that despite the achievement, she lacked love in her personal life at the time, making it the most intensely isolating moment of her life.
Nicole explained that her biggest successes often happen at the same time as her most difficult personal struggles. She said these two things frequently happen together, creating a challenging mix of experiences.
She admitted at the time, “That’s always aggravated me that it’s gone that way.”
And her post-winning celebrations were also tinged with sadness.
In a 2024 interview on The Jess Cagle Show, she remembered desperately wanting a fresh start. She explained feeling completely alone, saying she longed for someone to share simple joys with – ‘someone to jump on the bed with,’ as she put it. She described these moments as times when you just really need a connection.
She said she wanted to order fries and a burger to celebrate, but then jokingly added that she doesn’t have a lover to share them with.
